Next, eco-racing!

Eco-engineering does racing and our future cars, good. Here's the Formula Ford 1.0L road-LEGAL car with their Ecoboost engine. With a Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit lap time of 7 minutes, 22 seconds, it is faster that 600+ hp monsters like the Pagani Zonda ,the Ferrari Enzo and even the Lamborghini Aventador.

Future eco-engines does not have to be anemic or boring.

Greenwashing is popular ;)
We're having races on biodiesel, on CNG, and bio-ethanol ...

...but anything significant on the Nürburgring, is legit for gearheads and a real-world auto marketing bonanza.

Actually liking the idea of Formula Ford switching over completely to 1.0 Ecoboosts. Lighter engines, more efficient and with more torque than the current Duratecs in there.

I kinda wish the standards for "road legal" were as lax as they are in the UK over here...an X bow or Atom or Radical is my idea of a great car (with some aero though :)).

What'chu talking about? You guys have the T-Rex! :p And I think they do sell Ariels over there. The guy who won the unlimited class at Pike's Peak this year (with his self-designed and built racecar), Dan Palatov, had one as a test-bed for the Hartley V8 engine.

Amazing guy, him: dpcars.net

I really want an Atom!

How about the TDI Audis that have won Le Mans something like seven years in a row? I believe this year's winner was a diesel-battery hybrid, even. And most of the P1 class were hybrids of some kind.

I thought Crosley won the Index of Performance at Le Mans in 1951. Turns out it was DNF.
