Noob from TX w/ 95 civic VX

Howdy Y'all! I have been lurking here over a year, but this past monday I got a smokin' deal on a 95 honda civic VX! My father and uncle are both Ecomodders and have upgraded one of of there mules, so I got the older one. It already had a fully calibrated MPGuido (sic) and warm air intake (WAI) with choke-cable operated adjustable shutter!

I went from a 02 cavalier automatic that got 30-32 MPG @ 65-75MPH, I know because the fuel level gauge quit working 5 years ago.

I have a 75 mile round trip commute through San Antonio with very little traffic, due to a 5:30am to 4:30pm work day six days a week.

according to the Guido, I got 48 mpg Thursday morning, 56.82 Thursday evening and 56.05 this morning!

EDIT: Just so you don't need to read the whole thread, I have added the link to the WAI build thread.

Welcome..
Congrats on the VX you won't be disappointed.
Can you please include some pics and description of the (WAI) with choke-cable operated adjustable shutter.

Welcome! Perfect car for that kind of a commute!

WD40, I'll try tonight on the pics. I have been looking at your Kammback, and will be working on my own in the new year.

NachtRitter, thanks! i'm excited! if I can average 60mpg I should realize about $1200 in yearly savings.

Oh yeah, it has brand-new Michelin green-X tires at 50psi.

No dice on pictures tonight, its raining here, sorry folks

Having trouble sizing pictures.
The WAI system consists of a heat shield enclosing the space between the exhaust manifold and engine block, a corrugated hose about 3" diameter leading from the manifold to a "cut-out". For those not familiar, a cut-out is a valve people put in an exhaust pipe so they can select an exhaust routing on the fly. Mainly used in racing to bypass the muffler. This allows the driver to adjust the intake air temperature with a choke cable mounted in the dash. The other side of the valve goes to ambient underhood air and the valve has, basically, infinite adjustability. I will try again with the pictures soon

That sounds like what I had in mind to make using an old throttle body valve, no doubt cheaper then some of the cut outs I searched.
Excellent to get some fresh ideas.

A throttle body would work great, and you are right, they would be cheap at a junk yard. I love this place!! No matter what you do someone will improve on it! Mine has a temp sensor in the filter box, that way I can see my adjustments in real time. The whole system needs tweaking. It worked great in the summer, but I can't get it over 80f now. My dad runs this setup on a crx hf and a VX and claims the ideal range is 110-130f. Anything over 150 causes major power loss

I really like your idea of using a throttle body
