I'm Phil My car is a 2003 Saturn LW200 I am on the verge of crossing from the basic mods to extreme mods.

Below is my car... these are the aero mods As you can see I have the upper and lower grills 90% blocked.

I have wheel dams in front of the front and rear tires

I have swapped the 16 inch wheels for 15 inch wrapped in LRR rubber
I also have vortex generators along the back of the roof placed 6 inches from the back.


Power train mods are as follows:

I have a 2.25 inch engine back exhaust with a cobalt SS manifold (from my days autocrossing the car) a HAI and that is it

I do have a Scangague that is set to display... instant milage, tank milage, IAT, and Load%.

I am thinking about adding wheelskirts and a kamback as well as reducing the mirror size.

I will definitely be installing gap fillers on the body panels since plastic cars have canyons between panels.

any ideas on what to do next will be gladly considered

not quite ready to build a Basjoos style boat tail just yet but I might create a virtual one using air control.

I think I'll be doing some gap filling tomorrow I keep looking at the car and saying to myself "Man those gaps are big"

went to the local home store and bought some foam and got to filling gaps

the light grey you see is the foam and yes the gaps were that big.

I ran a 100mile test loop to see what if any difference these made and road noise is reduced significantly. I set my trip report on my scan gauge outbound 37.1mpg inbound 36.9mpg for an average of 37mpg. this was on a 55mph road with many hills I am not sure if these improved milage at all but the quiet is nice

Nice work! The grille block would probably be slipprier on the outside. You can probably cover the holes in your wheel covers with clear tape or something. The wheel skirts seem like the next step. I'm not sure that the wheel air dams help without a ramp on the leading edge. The nice thing about that is that snow can push flexible ones up even if they are very low. The tough corollary is that fairings behind the wheels will pick up stuff or rip off.

The wheel dams ahead of the tires have Cd1.10,not quite as bad as a parachute but close.They need some radius of curvature or its total separated flow and much interference drag downstream.------------- The center of the belly must be squeaky clean or diffuser is a wash.------------ Are you air-tight under the nose,between the fascia and radiator bulkhead?-------------- You already have a Kamm-back.------------- The "basjoos" stuff is the only thing that's really going to show up at the pump.The existing rear overhang of the body makes a boat-tail problematic due to length issues,whereas basjoos Civic didn't have a rear to begin with.Wagons,vans,and SUVs with existing rear overhang makes real drag reduction an extra special challenge
