out with the "olds" in with the metro
Going to test drive a 96 sli geo metro tonight. 1.3 liter 4 cylinder with a 5 speed. Sunroof which I don't know is a after market or not yet. It's a white hatch kind of resembles a hard boiled egg. 150,000 miles, cold ac which won't matter much to me lol. Nice shape from the pics. Has one rust spot below the door I can see. 900$ obo that's really cheap for around me I've seen alot worse go for 1200 and up. I can't wait to drive it around I hope it's as Nice as it looks. Good thing I didn't put my lawn edging on the olds yet, I'll just slap it on the geo now. Don't know what kind of mileage to expect out of the 4 cylinder with a stick, it is the earlier 8 valve engine rated at 70 hp.

Best part is the guy lives a mile from me to. So I'll be saving gas by looking at a car that's close to home lol
|
Any idea what mileage would be on the 1.3 8 valve?
|
Check the front control arm mounts for rust!
EPA Fuel Economy Combined: 35 MPG City: 33 MPG Highway: 39 MPG |
EPA ratings are listed at:

The 1.3L is capable of pretty decent numbers in the hands of a motivated driver. I wouldn't hesitate to get one.
CHECK FOR UNDERBODY & CONTROL ARM AREA RUST. The sunroof is aftermarket. This thread may offer some more info: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...uide-4590.html CHECK FOR UNDERBODY & CONTROL ARM AREA RUST. Here are some 1.3L Swifts (same drivetrain): 1) The White Gnat wmjinman 1999 Suzuki Swift 35 54.81 MPG 10) swift 2000swift 2000 suzuki swift 34 52.42 MPG 17) Steve's Suzuki SuzukiSteve 2000 Suzuki Swift GA 34 51.99 MPG From: EcoModder Fleet list - EcoModder.com |
PS: CHECK FOR UNDERBODY & CONTROL ARM AREA RUST.
:) Let us know how it goes! |
Will do I wouldn't complain if I was getting low 50s mpg one bit!
|
I'll check it over for frame control arm area rust, if it's somewhat bad I'll talk him down and weld it up
|
Perfect! If you're handy with a welder, the world is your oyster.
Keep in mind, those guys getting low 50's are probably cruising at moderate speeds or using a fair amount of engine-off coasting. (Kill switch installation in these cars is pretty easy.) |

That was gonna be my first mod, if I can find a reliable way to set it up. Should know tonight if I'm picking her up, pretty sure I am. Need a car for work bad 120 mile commute |
Brought her home for 685$ I love it already
|
I am not sure it's an sli though?
|
LSI. I'm pretty sure LSI meant 4-cyl in the later Metro years.

Nothing crazy just driving the metro, including seeing what it had a few times so not the easiest tank literally topping out the speedo once, I know I know but I couldn't resist. I wound up still pulling 44.0.mpg out of the tank I must just have a very good conmute. 120 miles mostly all highway exempt about 10 miles of it. I hooked up my torque app and I'm pulling 3100 rpm in 5th at 70 mph on the stock 155/80/13s. Bet it can improve a bit more.
|
Congrats. The Metro's going to save you a boatload of cash.
|
All I've done is changed over to mobile 1 synthetic engine oil, wix filter. new air filter old one was plugged up solid. And some air freshener all that was 62 bucks lol.
|
Another tank about the same driving, a little nicer to it but way more traffic I got 43.9 pretty consistent so far

The True Cost of Commuting bad for money, good for mileage lol >[/QUOTE] |
Make a garage entry and post your results. More data for the pile never hurt.

Been a while been busy, I upgraded to 185/70/13 khumo solice tires, feels doggier but definitely lowered cruising rpm, now speedo Is off though. Plus cam seal took a ****. No one carries gaskets in stock either.
