PAKU fully electric delivery van project
 

Hi,

I started to design my own battery powered delivery van and its named at the moment PAKU=delivery van in finnish. I will put update videos on my youtube channel so if you like to stay tuned on the progress subscribe the channel.

What would you change?
I want to use wheel motors what would you pick?
Battery pack should be flat under the floor any ready solutions for that?

If you know any other similar products like this other than Arrival and amazon delivery trucks let me know.

None of them.

I would change to anything but wheel motors.

Wheel motors are where projects like this go to die, IMO.

I have to agree because hub motors have proven to be prone to failure early. Really a speed limiting, too, most of them...

I also asked Yamahas EV motor package, but lets see if they are willing to sell me some.

So reason why not car manufacturers dont use inwheel motors is that they suck so big time?

I think so. Lots of unsprung weight, relatively delicate in a spot subject to brutal impacts all the time, speed limiting... they just don't last. Look up the Orbis Wheel threads on this site and you will see a cool effort at a solution to some of this, but Orbis was purchased by someone just as it went to market and then it disappeared. Poof!

From what I've heard, they don't last long. It also massively increases unsprung weight.

While you might increase cargo capacity with wheel motors, the extra downtime and other associated costs wouldn't be worth the trade off.

The rear drive unit of the E-AWD system fitted to some Toyota hybrids might be the best example of a suitable drivetrain for an electric van, if 4WD wouldn't be required.

I think FWD is enough. Will look that Toyota system.

Wow that is a lot of taper in the roof lines toward the back. A couple questions: are the vacuum formed side panels for a purpose or decorative? and the infotainment computer on the steering wheel is lawful? That is a great spot for one, especially on a delivery van when it is removable, but isn't it a driver safety hazard in a accident?
