What about the Honda Pop 100?

It's currently the cheapest Honda motorcycle in Brazil, fitted with the same single-cylinder engine found in current versions of the Cub, but with a manual clutch instead of the centrifugal one.

I like the shape of the bike much better than the Innova variant we get here.

That being said, I wonder if the Honda horizontal could benefit from more gears FE wise and if anyone makes a kit like Takegawa or the like ...

Probably it would benefit from more gears, but the 125cc version of the engine would be better regarding all-around performance. You might remember Brazil has an Africa-like povertry rate, so a 125cc motorcycle is acceptable in highway.

My question was merely academic : does more gears allow for more go down low and a better throttle position at cruising speed ?

Sure, but the gears alone don't play the most important role. It also involves terrain conditions, traffic flow, and many other variables...

The next time you have to replace your sprockets due to wear, put on a bigger front sprocket and a smaller rear one. You'll have to alter your chain length. That will give you lower RPMs at any speed. Less acceleration so be ready to ride in a lower gear in traffic.

Now the Honda Pop has a fuel-injected 110cc engine, yet it's still that austere. It may seem quite hard to justify elsewhere, and even in some Brazilian regions it's not so easy to spot one, but the Pop remains a valuable asset for the local Honda branch.
