Personal best on your latest fill-up? Post it here!

Way back in 2006 I started a thread like this on Gassavers...

If you've just recorded a personal best fill-up, share it here - along with how the heck you did it.

Off the top of my head I can think of a bunch of members who are climbing the ladder. Let us know if you're one of them!

Frank Lee 09-09-2013 09:19 AM

I recently got a best ever 42 mpg with the Tracer, right after installing the various front end blocks. But since then it's gotten about 38 so that 42 must have been due to that nice tail wind.

echo-francis 09-09-2013 09:38 AM

I filled up tuesday and got 88mpg. its my personal best. the way I did this is 100% p&g eoc
trying to coast to a stop at every red light and stop and 40-60mph p&g on hyw

pgfpro 09-09-2013 10:13 AM

I just got a PB of 56 mpg on my last fill up.

I did this on my test loop 45 mph with no stop signs and only a couple stops while testing running light load lean burn around 28:1 A/F.

My plans are to try one more tank full at light load then I will bring in my Hypermiling skills to see if I can pass 60 mpg.

How I got here is a long story and the details can be found here.

deejaaa 09-09-2013 03:26 PM

my PB was last week, 57 mpg. eoc, grille block, UG and watching inst readings.

a8ksh4 09-09-2013 04:41 PM

My last two tanks were my best ever @ 34mpg. Lots of engine-on-coasting and hwy miles at around 60mph. I haven't tracked my mileage for a year or two, but my best tank, previously, was ~32mpg.

Jyden 09-09-2013 05:06 PM

One tank ago I for the first time passed the 50 MPG mark. Actually it was 54.11 MPG.
Very warm wheather, slow driving on small roads + some coasting. It was on our vacation. Now its back to small trips, and autumn has set in....:(

jedi_sol 09-09-2013 08:27 PM

I Finally installed my kill switch, so lots of eoc 65-55-65mph highway driving. I installed full upper grill block. Just did my personal best at 27.04mpg.

I'm planning on completely removing my side mirrors and doing a full under belly tray. 30mpg is within reach!

However, #gameofthrones....winter is coming.

mikeyjd 09-09-2013 09:20 PM

Festiva = 595.5miles on 8.132 gallons = 73.48mpg(US)
Ram = 774.9miles on 24.368 gallons = 31.8mpg(US)

I've really been getting my best tanks since my test trip in which I achieved 94+mpg. I learned allot on this trip along with following overall average speeds of guys like Diesel_Dave. With my car not being very Aerodynamic (guessing .28-.3) lower speed P&G is my friend.

I mainly do P&G 45-35 (40-30 or 25 when I have time/traffic permitting). Avoiding highways when it's reasonable, and careful route planning to avoid areas with more stops/traffic. I'm getting to know the back road routes quite well around here which is aiding allot in my optimizing P&G timing.

Fat Charlie 09-10-2013 09:03 AM

In the 05 Subaru Legacy GT, 34.77 mpg for 538 miles.
In the 02 Nissan Xterra, 21.1 mpg for 352 miles.

HyperMileQC 09-15-2013 04:29 PM

94.7 mpg in my 2000 Honda Insight. 1004.3 miles with EOC in city and DWL on the highway! :)

HypermilerAX 09-16-2013 05:10 AM

Crazy. Is that with the thermic engine only or with electrical help ? What is the average speed ?

justme1969 09-16-2013 08:01 AM

I got a 38.3 from the Sephia but disregarded my result because that was the High tank in my average standard. It may have been true may not but with it there were 3
37.2 -37.6 mpg tanks. I sure want to count it but it goes against my facts.

whatmaycome14 09-16-2013 09:28 AM

Just got over 50mpg for the first time myself! Every tank of gas has been an improvement as I'm learning more about how to drive!

Im pretty much doing the same thing which has worked to a 51-53 mpg average for my vx. My best so far was tank before last I got 58.5 running non-oxygenated fuel (no ethanol).

Blue Angel 09-16-2013 11:15 AM

I just managed a 60 MPG tank in my Cruze Eco, quite an accomplishment for me when my daily driving is usually around 50 MPG. I modified my route to work and re-drove the most efficient part daily, along with all the usual hypermiler stuff. No P&G though, my car has a turbo.

My IMA system works but I try to not use assist as it tends to be slightly less efficient than no assist driving. This would not be true if I had MIMA :).

And for the avg speed I don't have numbers for the tank because the sg is fu**ed up when you do EOC without a kill switch. All i can say is that it is pretty slow.

slownugly 09-16-2013 12:46 PM

Hit 53.6 with the vlx. Only aero mod still mudflap delete. No eoc no pulse and glide.

euromodder 09-17-2013 07:05 AM

3.05 kg/100km of CNG, matching a previous 3.04 kg/100km so it wasn't a tanking fluke.

As I'm only paying 0.89 euro/kg, I'm beating Gerhard Plattner's record drive in a Skoda CitiGo CNG - even if it's solely on fuel cost , not consumption :)

fifteenwindow 09-17-2013 07:36 AM

I have reached 60.84 mpg in my 94 VX. These light cars are really affected by wind and rain.

alvaro84 09-20-2013 06:19 AM

I had a PR tank in the YARDIS a week ago too. Filling up after 4 months I got a tiny bit better than last time (a tank spreading from February to May). 4.17 l/100 km | 56.37 mpgUS. I'd love to see a sub-4l tank, but it seems it won't be a winter one, and I rarely use the car if I can ride my motorcycle. Although not proportional to her weight, but Teresa definitely drinks less.

skyking 09-25-2013 12:06 AM

I had flirted with 50 a few times, but I crossed the line today with 52.5 MPG in the Beetle.
I got a few good coasts but I paid for them; 6 trips from near sea level to 5000'.

GoGreenAuto 09-25-2013 11:28 AM

Personal goal met - new personal best - 60.1 Math - 60.3 FCD

Bought the car last November for a song, she was in decent shape but the MPGs had suffered... 50.5 lifetime, it was getting 45-48 at the time.

New indexed plugs from Honda, oil and trans fluid change, tires at max, adjust valve lash, replace missing aero underneath. Lightweight speakers and headunit, hot air intake, grill block and some learning and I finally got above 60mpg for a tank!!!

35 mile/day commute with little elevation change, but speeds up to 75/80. Finished out the tank with 622.4 and it took 10.365 gallons. Gauge had read completely empty for about 60 miles!! FCD said 60.3, math was 60.1 so pretty close. Over 60 regardless. I'm super proud. Going to update my hot air intake as it's pretty janky. I don't think I'll see another 60+ tank this year as the weather is getting colder and that makes my MPGs TANK.

Here's the display at the pump - no tricks - http://i.imgur.com/YsqCN5P.jpg

skyking 09-25-2013 11:34 AM

Nice one!

jcurtice 09-25-2013 11:54 AM

New here. Just did the math on my last fillup for my 1999 Dodge Caravan and got 498 miles from 18.593 gallons to avg 26.78 MPG.

Just started the hypermiling thing about a month ago. So far so good. My old lead foot avg was about 21mpg.

My goal is 30mpg from this beast.

RdRnr 09-25-2013 09:15 PM

26.8 MPG. It is a full-size truck, so not too bad. Just been doing some mild hypermiling (coasting in N, lower top speed, back-off on uphills, DWB as traffic permits). Used to get 22 MPG.

I'm going to sell it soon, so I won't be making any major mods. I may try an air dam and grill block just to see if there is an improvement . . .

nitebluesky 09-26-2013 01:35 AM

1989 civic dx sedan. d15z1 motor with hf tranny. I just installed three days ago. Not sure of the mileage yet. My 02 sensor has been acting up so my reading is going to be off and the weather has been getting colder too.

That's a big change in total volume of fuel burned. Nice going.

What's on your radar as a replacement?

Smokeduv 09-26-2013 09:43 AM

I reached a new record three fills-up ago, reaching 38 mpg just by changing my driving style and using new routes, as the car is mainly stock. Before entering ecomodder, I could only manage 26 mpg (when I started my fuel log, more than a year ago).

The bad news is that I couldn't improve more becauser I've encountered a lot more traffic these days, aside from two car failures in a month. The first was that the cable connecting the gear stick to the 'box broke, so I was left in second gear. Then, yesterday I had a motor failure where cylinders 3 and 4 failed to run, so I'm waiting for the recovery and preparing for a large bill.

cbaber 09-26-2013 04:33 PM

Just filled up and recorded my personal best of 52 MPG. I've got the tires at sidewall max pressure, and removed the power steering. The recent removal of power steering allowed me to jump across the 50 MPG mark, which was a major goal of mine.

Sporty Modder 09-27-2013 03:16 AM

Best in the Celica is 39.7 mpg, back in Aug. Previous best was 37+ mpg. Love this car.

roosterk0031 09-27-2013 08:35 AM

47.1 mpg with the Cobalt, can still do better, some 60 mph but also did some 50 to try to make up for it.

Thanks.

Another (smaller) truck. Reg-cab base Tacoma.

I was so close to buying a cruze eco about 1.5 years ago, got the Optima instead for a bigger back seat since we were expecting a baby. If I had known it could have done that I would have bought one, and would probably still have it. I also quickly realized that I didn't need a back seat in my car because I never drove with the baby.

But I'm pretty happy with my new insight and 83.54mpg was the best tank or 3 so far.

pletby 09-28-2013 11:07 AM

62.56mpg with my Civic. Previous best was 59.37mpg last tank, then back to last September at 58.53. Reason? Maintenance! Replaced brake pads, discs, found a spring keeper missing  from one of my rear brake shoes, and most noticeable difference came from replacing a drive shaft with a worn out CV joint. Now that I do my own wrenching I'm finding lots of mistakes and short cuts taken by the garage I used to take it to.

low&slow 09-28-2013 08:15 PM

I just shattered my previous best tankfill(136mpg) on my streamlined Ninja 250 with a tank average of 146.6 mpg ( 106.7 miles/.728 gal) . It was done on a 100+ mile loop I use for testing. It's all 2 lane backroads and we are able to stay at 55-60 mph for most of the run.

Jack-Lee 09-29-2013 04:47 PM

72mpg with my VW Polo (from 1991)

euromodder 09-29-2013 07:01 PM

2.9 kg/100km using Low energy gas.

That means I'm matching the NEDC value for the up! - which was measured using High energy gas, which has like 20% more energy in it. :)

60 MPG isn't normal for this car. I'm able to HM mile to about 50 MPG commuting on a regular basis, but that one tank was over the top and included some extra driving on an efficient part of my commute.

Having said that, I'm extremely pleased with this car! Optima is a nice looking sedan, but definitely bigger than you need for one. My Cruze has just me in it about 99% of the time.

user removed 09-29-2013 09:15 PM

My 2011 Fiesta powershift AT has a 90 day average of 49.1 MPG. It was built 11-10 and will be 3 years old this November. Just passed 20k miles on the odometer. I had a 52.85 MPG tank but the next one was 45 so I think it was a fill discrepancy. For a car that we use for almost all of our local hops (the wife and myself) the fuel mileage is exceptional.

In the last month I have been on a bike more than the truck and car combined, by a significant amount. At 62 MPG the bike is just plain fun to ride and still does good on FE.
A tank of gas in the truck should last me two months unless I find a good deal on a bike and need to drive there to pick it up, some distance away.

regards
Mech
