Pi Five!

My patience is rewarded, I'd been close to getting a Rasperry PI 400.
Raspberry Pi 5: EVERYTHING you need to know
Things are 2-3 times as fast, with two camera (stereo) inputs and driving two 4K monitors at 60fps. But a big one for me is the Real Time Clock.

PCIe and Wake on LAN not so much.

Does this sound like a utile thing to anyone else?

I just saw this deal on SlickDeals and thought of you.

Then I came here and see you have posted about it. What's your intended uses?

I'm thinking to build a new PC... probably been over a decade since my last one. Looking at a gen 12 or 13 i5 CPU, 16 or 32 GB RAM, a mid tower case that can hold 4+ 3.5" drives, and a ~500w efficient PSU. I can probably bring the thing together for about $450 or so.

I'll run a Plex server, BlueIris NVR, file server, and possibly games if I get around to it and can share that with the kids. Gonna start them with old ROMs so they can appreciate them before being ruined by the awesomeness of new games.

Raspberry Pi 4 won't run Blender later than 2.79 (Pythion or OpenGL or something). But I run Blender on Apple M1 silicon.

Basically, it would be the new world-facing machine so I can turn the current Pi 4 into a weather staion or hexapod or something. Just trying to keep up. PiHole?

Apparently it now has a real-time clock, but you still need to add a battery for it. I've always missed System Sleep, it's now on the way. PCIe for Invidia GPUs doesn't interest me.

Why don't the kids have a SBC they are responsible for? They might learn GPIO. Or PiHole.

Didn't know you were a pihole fancier. Or actually having a need for such a device.

Awaiting your review of the 5

Nevermind hackaday did one. Says you can overclock everything on board to 2 times base speed. You could make bucky dome house drawings in mere seconds.

Don't need an ad blocker, but then I don't need a hexapod either.

The PiHut has a dedicated support page to tell when an order will ship, but they only list credit cards as method of payment. I need to find someone that will accept a check or money order. Brick and mortar would be my preference.

Why create artificial problems for yourself?

If you like going places to shuffle funds around, you could always preload a Visa debit card at Walmart or other store that offers those.

PiHut will still have record of your purchase though, and The Man could subpoena that record and know that you purchased a Pi, so who cares if a credit card record also exists?

Life ain't nothin' but a funny, funny riddle, amirite?

I actually went against my own best interest and went into a Walmart to get the Pi 4. Even though their website listed them, they didn't have them in stock and and wouldn't order one in for pickup.

I eventually fond one online and paid by check. IIRC it was Canakit, but they still list as 'coming soon'. (https://www.canakit.com/raspberry-pi-5-4gb.html

You know checks still create a paper trail, right?

I don\'t obsess about the surveillance state. It\'s more about attack vectors. And peace of mind.

Maybe I should have waited until I have one to post the thread.
