In the interim I've been reading a book on alchemy (Anatomizing Divinity*) that traces it's history from China to India to the Middle East to Christian Europe.

Interestingly, the early alchemists believed the Earth was a ball with a fire in the middle that gurgitated matter and smoke that eventually became every single thing we know and love today. (except the Moon) Not flat-Earthers then, but they pursued the transmutation of elements. Their weapon of choice was the alembic.
Curiously, the Thunderstorm Generator is transmuting elements using two vessels connected by a tube, and implosions in water.

....but you can deepen your understanding of what those laws are. In this case it is the behavior of a plasma in concentric spheres. In microscopic bubbles.

When the results validate the hypothesis that might be a clue. Anyways, prototyping is easy, productizing is hard; and according to Elon Musk the factory 10x that.

History is full of invalid hypothesis... which are correct until they are proven wrong by more advanced theory. Stops being theory when the technology to measure it is invented
