Please help me calibrate my SuperMID
 

I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me calibrate my SuperMid.
I recently took a trip of 134 miles in which my car got a weak 46.5 MPG. :o

The SuperMID distance parameter of 02565 is reading correctly, but the FE readings are way off.
According to the SuperMID, I got 62.24 MPG.

I have the fuel parameter set at 10475. What should it be set at ?

The car is a 1993 Civic with a 1.5L / automatic.

I also have a question that hasn't had an answer yet :

How are the settings on the SuperMID affected by things such as a tune up, or changes to the engine that were not present when the SuperMID was calibrated ?
I ask, because I may have my valves adjusted.
Will the parameters need to be re calibrated ?

I was just wondering if someone could verify that I am doing the math right.
At the bottom of the page is the 'fuel parameter' info.

To me it looks as if my setting should be at 7826.

Any help would be appreciated.

The fuel parameter is just the flow rate of the injectors, as I understand it, so unless you change the injectors or the number of cylinders, I don't think it should be edited. Also, you can just change it linearly based on the amount it overcalculated. So, if it was 30% over, revise the number downward by 30%.

This might all be wrong though. I haven't had a guino for many months do to my project and I forget quickly

I assumed that the fuel parameter settings only needed changing when switching injectors, but still wasn't sure how that temperature and other factors affected everything.
It doesn't hurt to ask right ?
Changing my parameters linearly gives me the same figure that I have from the chart, so I must be doing something right.

Well, I set my SuperMID to just under the 7826 number ( 7800 even to give it a little wiggle room by going over ).
I just took a 2 and a half mile trip down to the grocery store. At the time that I started the trip, there was still ice on the car and the battery was almost dead from sitting in the cold.
Despite not having enough time to warm up and sitting at two stop lights , ( and being an automatic) , the SuperMID said I got 36 MPG.

Any ideas why the readings could be off by so much ?

On the way back, I got " 46 MPG ".

That's just under what I got on my highway trip on a warmed up engine and no wind driving an average of 58 MPH. I verified that by filling the car and calculating that way.

So what could I be doing wrong ? Is it not possible to calibrate the SuperMID on a the data of a single 134 mile trip ?

basically you fill it up, do a tank reset on the supermid and on the instrument panel (or note the mileage) drive a couple hundred miles, replicate the fillup conditions and see how many miles the odo says and how many gallons the pump says and how many miles and gallons the supermid says.

then adjust the fuel parameter up or down by the percentage that it was off

ditto for the miles (distance parameter).

review the mpguino calibration link to see if this makes sense, but you will have to convert the supermid numbers to english of course.

Looks like I need to drive my car more.

I drive a couple of miles to the grocery store every week or two to keep the battery charged, but that is about it.
The only time that the car gets 'driven' is maybe twice a year when I visit my parents.

Looks like I need to take a road trip to gather more data.

I know that my data for the trip that I took ( see first post ) was pretty accurate.
I would have thought that I could just add or deduct the settings, which is what I did.

Is the SuperMID accurate on really short trips like the one that I took to the grocery store ? ( 2.5 miles )

I should add that I unplug the SuperMID when I leave the car.
When I drive the car, I plug the cable in which sets everything back to zero.
All the parameters stay the same since they are in memory, but I get new data just for the trip that I take.

Perhaps this is what is messing up my data. ( ? )

I would leave it plugged in for a couple tankfulls to calibrate/check calibration. It looks like you can reset the other trips with the menu, i.e. if you want to check your current trip reset A or B when you start driving.

Please note, I'm just guessing here.
