Porsche Boxster Black EcoMax
 

I have acquired a very nice Black Porsche Boxster, missing the engine and transmission. The idea is to make this one fast car, but still Eco friendly.
Could use some input. My MGeo is still #1 priority, but I need to start planning ahead.

I could go all-electric and make it a "Rich Mans Telsa" (i.e, a Rich Man knows not to pay $100k for a car he can buy for $50k :))
But I'm thinking make it even better than a Tesla and make it a Plug-In Hybrid, so it can be lighter and go farther, and potentially even faster.

My thinking is to swap in the drivetrain from a salvage Prius that I already have and this will line-up with my Prius work, but it needs to go much faster and have more electric power. Hmmmmmmmmm, what do you guys think?

How do you find a Porsche without the engine and transmission in it?

And I say go for it. Prius that sucker!

Three words: Rear Main Seal. The early ones have had significant problems with them, and if they are bad enough the engine can die. Not sure about the trans.

I am guessing that you'll have an interesting time fitting the Pruis drivetrain in the back of the Box. It is set up for a longitudinal-mounted drivetrain; the engine is in front of the transaxle. The Prius has a transverse-mounted drivetrain. It is probably taller and will be further back in the car than the stock engine. I wonder how much room it needs side to side?

It would be a very cool conversion, though!

It would be exciting to see a Boxter that is actually fast!

The boxster is a wide wheelbase car (one reason it handles extremely well)
The flat-6 is not a small engine, nor is the transaxle.
There is lots of room in the back.
I've found one estimate that engine/trans is 800lbs of the 2700lbs car,
anyone know what the weight is?
The Prius is a narrow car. The height of the 1.5L engine might be an issue,
but probably not. I think the Prius 1.5L engine needs to go, not enough power.

I'm thinking a 13B turbo rotary. Smaller, lighter, more power.
If its only used when going fast and the EV power can do most of the daily work, it could get 50-75mpg and still do 0-60 in 5 seconds.

How about a subaru Flat 4 instead of the 6 ?

Maybe even the Diesel one.

With a remap for more 'go'.

K20? Or a WRX 2.0?

Knowing they have a Flat 4, there is a diesel one, they have 4wd and that they are driven by people in purple rally jackets, I know nothing about Subarus... :D

Just seemed like a reasonable fit given the original engine was an F6.

I doubt using a VW F4 would be practical.
