Potenza RE92 LRR thoughts?
I'm planning on getting some Insight wheels with the Potenza RE92 lrrs, but in just looking around at reviews, they get nothing but horrible reviews, with most people saying they would "definitely not" buy them again on tire rack...
A lot of the bad reviews seemed to come from people with performance cars, so I wonder how bad they would be on my 92hp CRX? Do they really suck that bad? If so, there are other LRRs in the sea for me. Thanks  |
I have no real complaints with them. I run them at 50 PSI on an Insight. Over 6 years/85K miles I've blown two, both due to sidewall punctures from road debris. That's more than I've experienced with other tires/cars, but could easily be just chance.

I was just gonna say.... that from what I've read on InsightCentral people seem to think they are great. I've read that they are the only tires that are as lightweight as the Insight's OE tire and the rolling resistance is still some of the best out there.
Of course that's me recalling what I've read, but still: I don't think it would be a bad purchase, especially if you can get them at less than retail. |
They are the insight OE tire, so I hope they are as light :p
I'll probably get some in about a week. :) |
Right! ....and I forgot to mention that some people think it's possible to buy Bridgestone Potenza RE92's that aren't as light as the tires that you can still get for 1st gen Insight's so if you are going to buy these I say be careful to get the right tires. It's not like they say LRR on the tire anywhere so just a heads up.

my wifes old tc had a set stock got 40k miles out of them, they liked to spin in the rain on that car but was a smooth quiet tire, i liked them...
|
Thanks for reassuring me that they aren't total crap :)
I don't drive like a bat out of hell in the rain like most people do so I probably don't have much to worry about anyway :) |
I think most of the bad reputation comes from manufacturers using them on cars that are too heavy for the sidewall. My subaru came with the stock and they were awful. The squealed around every corner, even when slowly turning into parking lots. The outside edges completely wore down in the first 12,000 miles. I ran them at about 32 psi. The thing is, my subaru weighs 3280 lbs.
My previous car, a 2000 celica, had re92s stock as well. No problems, no issues, no squealing, no sidewall wear. Got 40,000+ miles out of them(and 38mpg). It only weighed 2400 lbs. I think the tire really is great for light weight cars. |
Yeah, that's a good point, my CRX is basically the weight of the Insight, so I should be fine. Unlike all those complaining WRX owners... :)
