Power steeing delete on a Matrix, project and how to

well I have been toying with doing a PS delete for a while now, just could not find an idler pulley to replace it with.

Well a friendly soul on my Matrix forum who was looking at my car thread and "got it" about why I do what I do. He was into the performance side of things but liked the aero mods for the high end speed and the cost savings and sent me a link to a PS delete racing pulley:

Toyota OEM Belt Idler Pulley - MR2-S, Lotus PS Delete - TOY-ZZIDLER van Toyota OEM - Monkeywrench

The price will make the payback longer then many of my mods but its about getting better MPG :D

so once it comes in I have a little engine project :)

Recommendations on how to cap/ drain the lines to keep the mod reversible and easy steering?

I still have my pump all hooked up and simply pushed off to the side. I got used to the heavier steering quickly and lost the motivation to disconnect it all.

Does your power steering pulley is on the serpentine belt, or it is on a smaller one lonely? Because if it is on a small belt you could just remove it like we have done on the echo-troll. For the gain I guess like 0.05 - 0.1 LHK. You can't feel the non-asssisted tires above 10 MPH. I highly suggest you to do this mod. Also don't forget to keep your tires pressure high to make it even more easy to turn.

here is a diagram of my belt system:

the PS pump is the one on the far left
it is all on one belt or I would have removed it a long time ago :D

my tires are at max side wall and have been for two years!

Such an annoying thing that the ps pulley is on the serpentine, it would have been way more easy if the ps pulley would have been on a single belt. Do you think a smaller serpentine would do the job?

You have the A/C Compressor?

If I change out the belt I mess up the routing, so I have a idler pulley on order :D

yes I still have the AC, its not worth the hassle to remove it in a way thats reversible and some days in the winter I need the defog help (only once every few years).

This seems to be a good idea. Totally remove the ps pump, replace with idler pulley. How many RPM's are you getting when idling with no accessories?

Power steering perhaps.

my great spelling shows up again :(

idle is about 700-900 rpms once warmed up. its 18-2100 until its warm. but I only idle at stop lights that are sensed (one in the morning I hit 90% of the time).

When we removed PS from her matrix, I just bought a shorter serpentine belt, and rerouted it to skip the PS (and AC).
I drew out the belt diagram you posted above, and figured out a path that would turn everything the correct way while skipping the unnecessary stuff, then measured it with a piece of string and told the parts store the length of the belt I wanted in mm.
It took 3 trys to get the right length, and getting the belt on was a little bit challenging, but it gone on just fine in the end.
