Pulse and Glide my heater?
It's really anoying to me that the heater will come on for 5 min's then click off because the temp droped by one degree, then went up again. This happens pretty often. I've got a programable thermostat, older one. I've looked and I can't find any info on home thermostats that you can set a point for the heater to come on and go off. For instance, let the home cool down to 68 degrees and the heater kicks on till it reaches 72, then stays off until it's down to 68 again....
Any idea where I can find a thermostat that can do this? |
Doesn't sound comfortable and furnace combustion isn't like engine combustion.

I got an oil fired boilder for base board radiant heat. Just 12 minutes ago the heater kicked on and ran for ten minutes then shut off. The base boards never even got warm, just wasting oil and not even heating my home...This madness must stop!

Oh that doesn't sound good. Sounds like the limit switches need adjustment.

In the classic old Honeywell thermostats, you will see a small spiral of resistance wire. It is there to heat up the thermostat itself, instead of waiting for the furnace heat to get there. The contact point for the wire is adjustable, and the more wire you use, the less heat it makes. There may be a similar arrangement in many other thermostats.

This is a digital programable thermostat....

Replace the thermostat.

I went out and bought a fancy Programable thermostat today, but it has the same features as my old one, just 7 days instead of 5 so I haven't installed it yet.... |
google oil furnace cycling; plenty of things to think about there.
|
Gotta like a site called HVACOracle :) My Furnace burner cycles on and off
I believe my issue may be the cycling rate is not adjustable on the old T-stat. The new Thermostat I got has a setting for oil heating, so I presume it has some cycling rates in there to allow for proper warm up. I will try it. |
