Putting the "A" in CdA - Examples

For the sake of scale studies, I invite you all to post vehicles of similar profiles but of differing masses, I get a kick out of it, especially when they hold the same number of occupants.

The original Mini and the modern SUV's are basically the same shapes at different scales, funny hey?

This sort of thing always amazed me in an artistic sort of way.

Back in 1983 I parked my 1976 short box Ford van next to a Renault 5 (Le Car) and took some photos, that was a funny experience.

If anyone has a graph or chart showing the relationship to Cd and CdA and where such measures intersect at an optimum, I'd appreciate it.

If you'll go to the thread:'Aerodynamic paradigm shift:EV World' and hit the link to the article, there's a table there which will do all you want.

It would be fun to do a side-by-side frontal area comparison of the vintage vs contemporary Mini.
The new car reminds me of a seen in Steve Martin's movie,"The Jerk."

Good suggestion.

This is a track car and a very beat up old example, but the best frontal comparison I could find on short notice.

WOW! Even more dramatic than my pea brain imagined.
And from the age of owners of today's car,I wonder how many have actually seen the original car.
We had them around as a teen, and they could have passed for standing scrotal exam tables at a doctor's office.Really low! (which was the whole point).;)

Here is my air-cooled car (Left/Silver) verses a more modern 911 in yellow (a water pumper)

The silver car has less frontal area, but the yellow one has a better Cd.

The silver car is about 2,450 lbs, the yellow one about 3,480 lbs.

0-60 mph, silver car about 7-seconds (2.7L), yellow car 4 or 5 seconds (3.6L) depending on model (turbo option and year dependent).

Somewhere I have a photo of a 356 next to my 911, next to a 996 (like the yellow car). The 356 is actually wider than my 911, but lower.

Your Targa looks like it was stored in a bag of nitrogen gas.Immaculate!

It's a 50-footer, meaning it looks good at about 50 feet. Closer than that and the flaws start to jump out at you.

However, it's still a P-car and loads of fun to drive on a sunny day (top comes off too).

loads of fun

No kidding! One friend had a 911T another a 911S which he had to add octane booster to the fuel, and an uncle with a 912.
I'll never forget those driving experiences.Especially the S,driving dirt roads near Breckenridge,Texas at night with only one headlight.
Driving topless in nice weather would only add to the experience.:)
