RAM air Aero Tube

i was thinking about an Aero tube instead of an air dam

basically this mod would capture the air and redirect it out the rear from under the car basically letting the air pass threw the car or truck

instead of trying to push it out of the way

what do you guys think?

It depends. A 4" tube running the length of the vehicle would just waste space. Too much skin friction.

Modern practice has an envelope body that is hollowed out. MacLaren F1 and others. They try to get the air out behind the front wheels, then use a flat floor to set up for a difusser.

See the size of that duct? There're two of them. Here's a short duct on a Ferrari:

It's purpose is to move air away from the A-pillar. See also Viktor Schauberger's trout drive submarine:

It exhausts into a Coanda nozzle at maximum body cross section.

What I'm interested in lately is the rim drive thruster. duckduckgo.com/?q=rim+drive+thruster&iar=images

These are for water, but a ganged rim drive air jet seems possible. This could make the duct a motive force.

so basicly adding a fan?

It's getting away from the ram air (RAM air?) you asked about. A real example would be Malcom MacLaren Gordon Murray's new T50 supercar. It uses an auxiliary fan to draw air up into the diffuser on demand. But it robs air from about the rear axle line (above and below), not the front.

I can't tell if you're making a joke? Malcolm McLaren was a British entertainer, nothing to do with the auto manufacturer. (The T50 has nothing to do with the auto manufacturer either; Gordon Murray has struck out on his own for this one).

Sorry, Brain Cloud.

aero tube

For lower drag, the trend is towards reduced body porosity.
And the lower the drag, the less porosity is needed, as cooling requirements drop with lower drag ( 2022 M-B EQXX ). A self-reinforcing feedback loop ).
The lowest drag automobiles known have zero body porosity.
I think you'd be shooting yourself in the foot.

The question has become particularized.

30 MPG is a pretty low bar. What vehicle did you have in mind? And what is wrong about the way Aerocivic looks?
