Scan Gage II vs UltraGauge EM
 

any one have ultragauge em they seem to be the same as the scan gage 2 but price wise are the big different! let me know what you guys think of these 2? and seems to me scangauge 2 are out all over and ultragauge em is something new i found out today...

The UG has a much nicer-looking display than the SG II does. The SG is more configurable, and if you know what you're doing you can add more readout choices than originally are programmed into it.

The MINI boards have stories about the UG causing the car's electronics to come back on-line after the car is shut down, draining the battery overnight. No such stories about the SG II.

I have the SG II, and I like it. It displays four readouts at once, and I can choose what to show.

The UG seems to be able to display 6 readouts at once, SG II has 'only' four. I bought a SGII because the UG was not able to use metric units at that time. This problem has been solved in the meantime, but I have never seen an UG live and could not talk to someone who has one... UG users, come out from under your stones and report :-)

I own SGII v. 4.15 & UG v. 1.0 (original, not EM). I prefer UG.

SG pluses: programmable/customizable, has performance monitor
SG minuses: expensive, dated appearance, inaccurate*, programmable features very limited and hard/complicated to setup. Only 4 gauges displayable at a time. Must cycle through others 1 at a time to display them.

* SG sometimes drops trip average mpg precipitously, with engine off, key on. I've watched AVG display count down from, say, 24.7 mpg to 17.2 mpg while stopped at a light with my engine off.

UG pluses: modern appearance, more bang for the buck, 18 gauges available on 3 screens, 6 at a time.

UG minuses: not programmable/customizable.

Basically, if you just want to plug-n-play, get the UG. If you want to monitor your transmission temperature, or your hybrid battery pack voltage, and (this is a big if) if the SG knowledge base supports what you want to monitor, get the SG.

I like my Ultra Gauge. I have never seen a Scan Gauge in real life yet, so I'm biased. Also, the Ultra Gauge displays 8 gauges at a time if you include the open/closed loop and ecu heartbeat.

You can display 18 gauges on three pages (plus the heartbeat and loop), but have to manually scroll through them or let it automatically scroll. I would use the auto scroll if I could repeat certain gauges on each page.

I've been leaning towards getting an UG. What are you guys talking about the UG not being programable/customizable? Will it not give you as many parameters as a SG, or are you just saying that you can't create custom screens?

Also, do either allow you to log data?

The custom gauges are things like hybrid battery SOC, or the amps in/out of the hybrid pack, or even just an engine's short or long term fuel trims. Its basically any data that the engine uses. You just have to have the correct info to look for those codes. As Sentra pointed out, its not real easy to come by this info usually.

Another plus IMO for the SG is that it is made in the US.

How acurate and instantanius is the instantanius readout on the SG ?

The power down feature has 2 discoverable options. Option 2 is the default and recommended. You can select 1 or 2. 2 uses less power when the ignition of turned off if your vehicle supports the protocal. You can repeat gauges on multiple screens. There are 7 screens total but you have to unlock them if you want more that 3.
