SG2 or new Kiwi MPG
Hello everyone I am new to the forum and was looking to get a sg2 when i saw on amazon the Kiwi MPG for 89$. I like that price better but I want something I will be happy with dose anyone know how accurate the kiwi products are vs. SG2. I know that the kiwi has fewer features then sg but all I really care about is the mpg and the thread about the sg accuracy is kind of making me look more at the kiwi mpg any comments or tips would be helpful
Thanks Graham |
the accuracy issue is likely because of the nature of OBD. There is only so much resolution available over the obd port, and you don't really know what proprietary algorithms SG or kiwi use so cannot assess what lengths they went to to compensate for the lack of resolution of data over the obd port.
Here was the intro thread, I think someone needs to test the kiwi mpg in any event: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...-mpg-6750.html in the SG, though you can see a lot more vehicle parameters (coolant temp, air temp, etc) over the obd port, which is OBDs real strength. So it seem a shame to toss it out. |
I can't attest to the accuracy of the Kiwi as I have never used one but I do have a SGII and couldn't be happier. My SGII reads within .2 gallons on my tank avg (compared to my actual miles driven/pump fill).
With any "real-time" mpg instrumentation it's never going to be 100% exactly correct at all times during operation of your vehicle because so many variables (road conditions, throttle position, etc.) are constantly affecting the actual mpg. It's a fairly accurate representation of your car's real time mpg. If real time mpg is all you want to track (and you don't need or want the extra guages that SGII and Kiwi offer) why not pick up a MPGuino for $55 (pre-built). |
If you want absolute accuracy and affordabilty get the mpguino. If you want features and to be able to watch other sensors (which is quite important) get a scangauge. The kiwi is a 'neat' gadget, but its slightly inferior to both of the other two if you really want a good tool. I wrote up a review of it on our blog. Do a search for kiwi there and I'm sure you'll find it.

Thanks for all the feed back I ordered the SG2 last night and I can't wait to get it

SGII if buying a unit
The Kiwi I bought is a useless sack of..... |
Hello,
Can you please give us a few reasons why you thought the (inexpensive?) Kiwi is worse than the SGII, please? |
But has anyone been able to review the NEW Kiwi yet? The review on the blog is for the old (and massive) one.

No - their web site still says "Available March".
