Shifting into glide!
Anybody know if coasting downhill in neutral has ill effects on the transmission?
|
Automatic? engine still running? Shouldn't bother it one bit. It will still be circulating the atf if the engine is running.

Have a auto in one man in the other, but the auto is giving trouble and I was hoping I didn’t cause it
|
Left the engine running when you shifted in to neutral?
|
Always
|
Should not cause an issue, as far as I understand it. It's moving without the engine running that damages automatic transmissions.

You need to either slow to around 5mph or rev match before shifting back into gear. No trans likes being shocked into gear at speed.

I have noticed harsh shifting going back into gear in my Chevy work van but now I put my foot down a bit when shift back into gear. I don't think it hurts it much. About the same as going from reverse to drive in a hurry.

In my intrepid I had to blip the throttle to avoid a harsh re-engagement. The cts, traverse, and volt all do this through the existing software.

When I shift into neutral, I wait a second before pulsing (in P&G) to give it a second to properly shift. Same with gliding, I give it a second before shifting into neutral.
I sometimes EOC the last 10 feet into my driveway or parking lot. Not sure if that's bad or not since it's always under 15 mph and no more than 10 feet at a time? |
