Short time lurker

And even shorter time member.

As my name implies, I'm a jerk, eh, jack of all trades. :p
Yeah, that's it, jack of all trades.

Although I don't use any hypermiler driving techniques
I think some of the modifications might be useful and
will probably make some of the modifications to my car.

And for that I will thank all of you in advance for the
ideas, how-to, and informative articles that you have
made available.

By the way, I learned of this site when I came across
a post on the car lounge about the 90 mpg civic.:D

See ya later.

Welcome to the site! Hope you find something useful here.

Do enter you car intro the garage!

Yes, do. And don't feel bad if you drive an insanely large gas guzzling vehicle :D"

Sorry, I don't know what you're talking about here.:(
Is this a feature of this forum?

Remember, I'm new here and might be a little slow at first.:turtle:

Greetings and Salutations,
I believe you will find lotsa good info.
It's O.K. to not understand everything.
I have had many a tutorial on forum usage, posting, etc.
We are all (I Think maybe, perhaps, could be, ) working on a project, and learning more every day.

My observation is that every person I have ever ridden with uses some (read very little) HyperMiling technique once in a while.
Not 100% true but true enough.
My son is a true anti-HyperMiler. Two speeds. Haulass & stop. Even to a standing red light.
I get to ride a lot. I watch the drivers like a hawk.
My Daughter will lift her foot from the throttle early when coming to a stop. Every little bit helps.
I am sure you too will begin to use the techniques herein and maybe not even realize it at times.
Lots to read and I'm days behind.
Have Fun. S.

Metroschults,

I hadn't thought about it but I have always used some hypermiler techniques.
I will lift throttle and take the transmission out of gear and coast to a red light but, I have always done that. A couple years ago I started driving slower :turtle:to try and get better gas mileage and have improved my average from 27mpg to a whopping 31mpg without making any changes to the car.

However, I don't use the cruise control (stopped working anyway) because I grew up with cars that didn't have that feature. And pulse and glide seems to me to be very annoying to other drivers (I try to be considerate of others).
I will keep reading and maybe find driving techniques that I will find comfortable or can adapt for my own use.

I know what you mean.
I've always switched from OD to D when coming off the freeway so that i could use engine breaking and save my breaks (essentially this forced the auto transmission from 4th gear to 3rd gear). and the simple act of rolling up your windows when you're on the freeway saves a lot of gas - even if you have AC on, wind resistance takes up more gas because it acts like a wind sail.

And when you have a driver behind you while trying to make a left turn there's always that thought in your head of "I know he wants me to try and take this very next gap in the traffic that's 2 car lengths too narrow"
I wonder if everyone feels like that. (esp. in Phoenix - we do 55 in our driveways)

Good Good, keep at it.

Good points, all.
P&G is very annoying to other drivers, this is true.
I drive in horrendous traffic on my way in to work. I do not have the Kahonies to force drivers behind me to slow below the speed limit. Especially since some of them weigh 40 tons. I just stay in the slow lane at the lowest reasonable speed and try to be as considerate as possible.
I will get behind one of the Semi's to draft though.
They don't like it a lot,so, I stay back far enough so they can see me in at least one mirror. I know I hate it when I'm driving a Semi and I know there is a car behind me but I can't see him. It is very unnerving.
My ride home however is another story altogether.
Generally there are only a few dozen cars on the road with me and I can P&G all I want in the slow lane. If one of the late night drivers gets behind me during a glide I just turn on my flashers and he will usually go around. Unless he's a PC Trooper. Duh. On my second glide He pulled me to find out what was wrong, After a short explanation he just shook his head and left me alone.

That Said: I am sure we are all getting a little better every day.

I may fill my tank early to see if I have done significantly better with this tank vers last tank. (No SG yet). car still runs poorly. werkin on the replacement so's I can get this off the road for reman.
