Should I tint my windows?
I'm really thinking about it. And if so, what do you recommend to do it with?
Thoughts on this: http://www.snaptint.com/car-tint-Honda-CRX-1991.html ? |
Probably the most and darkest %VLT you can get legally. Block out the heat and save on gas all at the same time  but I thought you haven't been driving your CRX lately :)

I personally don't like tint for the reduced night time outward visibility.
|
I know in IL you can't tint the front side windows, and the windshield, so it's pretty pointless for the driver. Some light tint for the front window would help a little. Or I'm pretty sure they make clear tints that block out UV rays so your skin doesn't burn, but you have clear visiblity

True on the nighttimeness, but the heat of my car is a bit of a killer.
|
OH!!!! you know how they have those glasses that auto-tint themselves to UV rays? why don't they have those for cars? it'd work out so-much for night-time and overcast days!

honestly it is worth having a shop do it, i know it is a bit more expensive (and that can be hard on some people) but i have tinted windows before and it takes alot of time both in prep work and putting the tint on. this is verry crucial if you want it to look professional and get the best uv protection. I dont want to make it sound like a nightmare but if you have never tinted windows before, you will make mistakes and it most likely will look like dooky (flat windows are the easiest but add any curves and it goes downhill quickly) just to make my point, you can not do a good tint job in under 3 hours, and that is if you do it as a hobby (professionals can be quicker but this is not often the case) and it will take longer if its your first time.
any how back to your question yes have your windows tinted .... by a shop. |
How much will a shop charge?
|
DPoV - good idea.
|
shops can vary drastically, but you can get a good tint job usually between 200 - 350 usually with the two largest factors being the size of the windows and the complexity (curves). another factor with price is how many shops are in the area, when i lived in florida i could get the windows on my trans am tinted between 175 - 275 so there are a few factors. when looking at shops also ask about the warranties on the tint, most shops provide warranties against the tint fading, peeling, and bubbling.
DPoV, your post reminded me of the electric tint, you put a current through it and it darkens (similar technology to auto dimming welding helmets) not sure what the tint is called or the availability but it is awesome.. |
