So... Who wants to try my new idea?
Take any Car, the lower the better, preferably 4 ft wide, more I you can buy wider material. Buy some plexiglass. THe more the merrier. Mount a 4x8 sheet on the roof and have it gently curve down until it touches the end of the hood. Mount the next sheet where the prior one ended, and carry on wih the arced plexy until you almostoch the road, maybe 4 inches up On the back do the same, until the car resembles an upside down dinner plate, or a speed bump, or a trapezoid with curved angles. The sides can also be covered with plexi, covering the wheels and mounting to the front and back pieces for support. if you feel energetic you can cover the belly of the car and eliminate all turbulent areas. Well almost.
I realize I might add a few pounds, extend the lenth of the car by a few feet, but it would be super aerodynamic. Almost No need for any other aero mods. |
You are not aware that basjoos did almost exactly that?
|
Problem is you gotta keep it clean and Plexiglass scratches easily.
|
Good luck with defrosting/defogging it too, as well as seeing through the rain- yes motorcycles don't have wipers on their fairings, but most of us look over the fairings more than through them.

sides
The open spaces on the sides will cost you in aero. That is if they don't allow enough air in to rip it all apart:eek:
|
That's why I said plexi on the sides too. No I did not know desjoos did that. Did it work?
|
As far as I know he took it off.

If you want to remove your stock windshield and build a new one over the hood be my guest! That would be cool to see. |

He also learned it made a minimal improvement over a facory sloped windsheild.
Hucho shows a chart of windsheild angles, basically there is minimal change until an angle much more vertical than modern autos have. As an added point, plexi is much more expensive than foam/fiberglass. FRF is also easier to shape with a sander or hot wire. |
