They covered the bases pretty good! Some of the recommendations would require a re-design of the truck, but much could be mods as we know could be DIY.
Thanks Darin! |
Diesels are a great untapped resource for mileage gains. I just got 19.3 mpg on a 500 mile trip in my 89 Dodge, and it is running injectors that are 300 % larger than stock. Horsepower is 400 on fuel and 600 with nitrous. I am trying to get an overdrive in the works, as currently I am about 30% past the rpm for peak mileage. Keep in mind this is in a 5000 lb truck that is shaped like a brick.

I've visited that forum over the years. There are some good pro engineers on there, and somewhat less of the usual nonsense.

My oldest sons Hemi Ram Crew Cab 4x4 got a best of 21 mpg with him driving one way on a 240 mile trip....he was SHOCKED when I drove it back and got 23! It's the newer 09 that shuts down 1/2 the motor when cruising....he accelerates a bit harder and tends to stay at speed lomger when a stop is ahead.

I have one helluva time busting 20 and that is with pretty careful driving.
Wish I could shut half my cylinders down at cruise... sometimes. |

No! You should go for it. You aren't going to pollute the place with nonsense, I know that.
