SPA F1 mirrors

Do you think these mirror would be any good. Pegasus -SPA Design Formula Car Mirrors. They also make them out of nylon with convex lenses.

any mirror that's smaller than stock would be an improvement i think. these look pretty ok the curent trent in cars is to have mirrors that are free standing and not attached directly to the A pillar but rather the door trough a strut, don't know if this is drag or noice reduction though.

on the other hand drag reduction isn't a high priority in F1 raceing, it won't be a ultimate low drag design, but all in all better than most stock mirrors

mirror

Is it actually a F1 racing unit,or stylized version of a racing unit? The mounting stem in itself will shave some frontal area, however, the ball-socket,swivel- attachment(?) at the base, appears puny, and if road hammer knocks the thing out of alignment during driving, any benefit from drag reduction would be effected by the hassle (and danger ) of losing outward visibility. If you can get a hold of a unit and "bench-test" it with your bare hands, before you purchase, you may save yourself some grief later on.Nothing worse than great looking piece-o-crap!

That was one of the options I explored. If you don't want to pay full price, you can troll around on ebay and wait for knock-offs in the sub $40 range. I just looked but I can't find any right now.

Motorcycle mirrors are another option :

eBay Motors: 1998-2002 SUZUKI GSX 600 750 KATANA CARBON MIRRORS (item 180276820237 end time Aug-15-08 22:23:37 PDT)

From my POV, the thing to keep in mind is that you have to make sure that the mirrors will turn enough to be usefull, because their mount point on motorcycles isn't the same as the mount point on a car.

I was looking at these Hayabusa mirrors. eBay Motors: Suzuki GSXR 600 750 1000 Hayabusa INTEGRATED MIRRORS (item 220267959236 end time Aug-14-08 07:55:57 PDT)

Mainly because my stock mirrors have turn signals in them and I like that. I figured the difference in the mounting angle would have to be solved by some sort of wedge.

I can't agree more. Getting the built-in turn signals is another coup in my book (and they look cool too). I like where you're going  !!!

Question: This is a 100% solvable (non?-)problem, but would you have to worry about the voltage differences between a motorcycle and a car? My circa 1970's motorcycle used a 6 volt battery.

Answer: Nevermind. I just Googled, and it looks like a non-issue because the Hayabusa also uses a 12 volt battery :

Those look sweet, can't wait to see them mounted. I was looking at mirrors at dennis kirk, some surface mount motorcycle mirrors.

Here is my OEM mirror.

The Hayabusa mirror is about 75% smaller than the stock mirror.
