Suggestions on grille block
1 Attachment(s)
Ok this was to test it out and it works now I want to make something more permanent. Any ideas something that doesn't look too tacky but then again I have homemade wheel covers lol

So I searched google for what it looks like under the block...is just 2 really long openings, correct? Have you considered jamming pipe insulation into the holes to fill them? Otherwise just use a sheet of something and stretch it across the whole pocket so you can mount it to the bumper with some screws or something and the middle bar will support it across the length...maybe?

This is the hardest part or aero mods for me, finding something function but that still looks decently pleasing to the eye lol

If you can remove the bumper you can block it from the inside. Just as effective but looks OEM, if you use something black.
Maybe incorporate a latch of some kind so you can still let some air through when you need it. |
Blocking the top grille is usually most efficient.
Before blocking the lower grille, check what kind of radiators you got there - blocking a radiator that cools the auto transmission may not be that good an idea ... Block it from the inside if you care about the looks. That's what the car manufacturers do anyway. The current crop of giant grilles are usually just black plastic inserts with limited open area. |
Take a look where your engine draws the intake air, usually that would be behind the top grill.
Blocking that completely will probably make it draw warm air heated by the radiator. That may not be what you want if you have an EGR; the combined heat would cause pinging, the engine will compensate by retarding the ignition. Lower grill blocking will lower under hood pressure so more air will flow through the upper grill. You can block part of it if just to compensate for that. |
Maybe search 'grill blocks' on ecomodder and see what everyone else uses....
there are a lot of creative designs.... |
2009 vibe grill block
Tomorrow I intend start to fabricate the grill blocks for my car. I plan to use a sheet of thin durable plastic (snow sled) on which I will be gluing basic black vinyl upholstery fabric.
I intend to install it in the three ports using capped countersunk screws through to the back of the grill utilizing another piece of plastic with washers and wing nuts for easy removal. I am convinced that it will look nearly professional and stylish, AKA (inconspicuous) I will generate a report on effort, costs and pictures after it is done. |
