Superbird aero testing

I notice that I have never seen any reference to the Plymouth Superbird / Dodge Daytona on this site.

This is a really good site with lots of information on the two cars : Aero Warriors - The G-Series Wind Tunnel Test Report

There is also loads of technical documents .

And the color version of the pictures : http://wwnboa.org/cwcdat.htm

The above link was rare 'classified' information on the '71 " coke-bottle" design.
To bad NASCAR banned the 'bird !

Great post, I'm pretty sure the standard Charger and Road Runners had a Cd of around .44 to .45. With the SuperBird and Daytona modifications that Cd was dropped to .28. I heard the Daytona was the better of the two as far as Cd's go.

Ain't that ahead of it's time for the late 60s/early 70s. Wrap around windshield.

Cool find

If there was someone here on the site who owned one, I would had to see them making fender skirts and putting smooth wheel covers on a rare gem like that.

Just out of the blue about fifteen or so years ago, this fellow comes driving up to where I worked in Superbird. After speaking with the guy, come to find out he had owned it since new, and it was Petty blue car with a 426 hemi.
I'll bet his grandkids see a pot of gold on wheels every time they see that car !

We got into this one over at maxmpg a year or so ago.Chrysler rocket scientists with angle iron, cardboard, and duct tape at the Chelsea Proving Grounds.Too much fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lose the rear wing, throw in a slant-six ( I know thats heresy ) and they'd have had a monster fuel-sipper back then. But naw.

Because it is a simple design, maybe I'll try a version of this below-nose spoiler from the tunnel test report :

Here's another version of it :
