Taller tires for pickup?(do they increase mileage?)
so relatively soon my truck will need new tires and Im wondering if I should go up a size to help economy or will that just lead to more aerodynamic drag?
|
Doesn't seem to work on the pickups new enough to have overdrives.

mine is a 5 speed manual, that make a difference?

How'ed your 'search' go????????
Probably 100 threads on this topic......with research and testing........ |
If your tacoma doesn't have 31'' tires it should.
If I could do it again I would get 31'' general grabber LRR HTS highway tires for 15'' rims. I went from P235/70R15 to 31x10.5R15 and didnt see any reduction in milage. |
I know there are threads on this however someone posted that for trucks it doesn't work the same. And instead of telling people to go search for stuff why don't we include links to help them out since some of you know of threads that I don't..
Oilpan4 did you see a decrease in rpm at highway speeds and mine has the 235/70 r 15's as well. |

2. so search and posts links. 3. Really, people sit around with links on the top of their heads......please` introduce them to me. 4. believe it or not....I am tired of going to the search link for lazy posters. Search.......taller tires....trucks......that all anybody else does. 5. really, you just want to be spoon fed your exact answer instead of learning about the general concept. |
IF I have a link ready from the top of my head I'll share it but usually I'd have to do a search. The search function should pretty much eliminate the need to have a resident reference librarian.

The lower cruse RPM made up for all the bad things larger tires cause. The main thing was the 31'' load range C tires almost doubled usable weight capacity. Also the P235s looked like clown car tires on the suburban. Tacomas do not look right with the smaller tire. The 4cyl tacomas all came with 4.1 rear ends and the over drive is pretty tall something like .63? to 1, depending on the year. I try to get my friend to swap V6 axles on his tacoma, they have an E-locker on the rear and are 3.73. (I think it would be worth 2mpg) My friend claims his tacoma weighs in at 4400lb at the scrap yard when empty. |
