TDI Block Heater
 

Does anyone have experience/recommendations/results concerning Volkswagen TDI block heaters?

I'm moving to Washington state soon and am considering getting one. I have very limited knowledge on the subject other than the general concept.

I use one in my 7.3l powerstroke, it will allow you to have instant heat (warm not hot) and easyer startup/ warm up

I might get one for my crx to kill warm up time

It's surprising that noone with a tdi has one!

I highly recommend it and have gotten one sooner. I have mine plugged into a timer set to run for 2 hours before I leave for work. I also put an oil pan heater on.

awesome. I wonder what the mpg difference is warmed up compared to running cold? any thoughts?

Way better. Probably netted me a 2-3mpg per tank gain this last winter. Helps more on shorter trips than long commutes obviously. It is also thermostatically controlled and I am considering running it year round as the starts are much smoother with engine already close to NOT. Also has the added benefit of slower heating cycle and reduced thermal stress on engine components.:thumbup:

nice. so, if my tank is 14.5 gallons, at best, I'll get 43.5 more miles out of it with the frost heater!

That's like a whole 'nother gallon!!! That rocks.
