Terrible Twos!

Alfa Romeo is bringing 2-cylinder 0.9 liter turbo engined MiTo with more than reasonable 105 horses and an optional 2-cyl 1.4 LPG developing 120 hp!
Where's the North American versions?

i wonder first off about emissions. seems like a beast like this would be economical to build and distribute, so theres got to be some reason we havent heard about it over here. hopefully this idea will catch on and we will begin seeing these sorts of engines on our shores. a .9L 2 cylinder paired with a mild or full hybrid would be great!

We're still breaking in the auto reviewers / general public with the concept of 3-cylinder cars... eg: the recent BMW 1 Series demonstrators, the coming Fiesta 1.0 turbo, and Mitsu Mirage 1.2L econobox.

Baby steps! Baby steps...

...but EM'ers are always ahead of the 'minus cylinder' curve.

Pretty cool...I remember reading about a 2-cyl turbo for the European Fiat 500, is this the one?

I've been thinking about tiny engines this weekend, with a Citroen gathering in town. I got a picture with this 2CV. The biggest 2CV motor was 600cc's making 29 horsepower, but this one's obviously seem some miles:

Where's the Turbo-Diesel version?

When I was a kid I saw a Citroën 2CV race in Belgium.
The rules were simple; the cars had to be standard, except it was allowed to take unnecesary stuff off.

Some 30 2CV's raced through town without doors, fenders, hood and bonnet, bumpers, lights, windows, roof, hubcaps, passenger and rear seat, spare and tools, glove box lid, you name it; just a helmet for the driver and chicken mesh for a windscreen. Losing half the weight and drag turned those underpowered wretches into fierce racers... or so it seemed at the time.

The tiny 2 cylinder aircooled boxer engine gives the 2CV a very low center of gravity, so they were very hard to flip even though their vague and long-traveling suspension made them tilt over in the corners like no other car ever did. They'd scrape their top to a wall in outside corners rather than the wheels...
They used to flock the streets over here in those days. Now months go by without spotting a single one. Saw one a week ago, actually. Maybe the third I've seen this year, one of which belongs to a house friend ;)

That is really cool, but I'm glad it won't come here. I could see people buying them and the oil companies then upping diesel another dollar or two.

Now I want a 1 cyl thumper.

Connect the connecting rod directly to a senior citizen's rubber-tipped "cane" and you'll have a self-propelled Pogo Stick™ (wink,wink).
