Test of P&G vs DWL

I finally did a test of P&G vs DWL on the highway. Conditions were ideal for a P&G test - no traffic behind me, level road, 65 degrees, and a light tailwind. MPG is from my Scangauge, which reads about 5% or 6% low. I do not bother to better calibrate it because the relative readings are good.

A stretch of DWL resulted in 36 MPG on the Scangauge. The road is level, with slight rises and falls of 2 to 4 feet. I tested P&G between 50 to 55 MPH, timed to take advantage of the road undulations, slight as they were. Results: P&G gave me 40 MPG.

I do not normally P&G on a level road because glide distances are shorter than the accelerations. A typical 50 to 55 pulse and glide is less than a mile. And because gliding below 55 MPH in a 55 limit on a two lane road with limited passing is too rude.

The MPG difference between DWL and P&G increases at slower speeds, and with larger speed differentials.
