Thanks, winter.

So I'm still not driving very much. Not quite a tank a month as I had planned, but I have gotten several free gas tanks (and meals) playing taxi for friends to the air port. So no biggy.

But this summer I had my 90 day average setting quite nicely at around 60% EPA. Now it's nearly half that and likely to go down more as winter hits dead on. It seems even with the block heater, the short trips around town absolutely kill the mileage. It seems the only way to beat winter mileage is to just avoid the car all together. :D:turtle:

Wish I could send some warm air to you. It's 60-70 here, but even in Florida that won't last. It will go back up to 75-80 until we get another cold front.

I hear you Brucey. I got my wheel skirts done in time for the winter to stay sub 60. Even my road trip to DC only got me on par with the best MPG for commuter trips.

It makes me sad. And it makes me want to buy a welder and go crazy with 1/2-3/4" exhaust piping lol I'll just run the exhaust out the hood and around the intake.

Yeah, winter stinks. Having a schedule to adhere to when driving stinks. Both will drag my FE down significantly this winter. At least it's still at EPA highway (27 mpg) for going up/down the hills around here.

Winter sucks - headwinds of 30+ mph all week after my first aero mod. But most of all I would like to thank Scottish Gas for basically wrecking any chance of monitoring whether my grill block works, or getting a tank over 50 mpg this month.

This morning my journey took 25 minutes, 20 of which I sat going under 5mph thanks to their guys sitting in the bus lane. I would like to say they were busy getting their work done but they were just sitting in their vans reading the papers.

Yep, barely beating 40 mpg where 50+ was my average. More electrical loads, and stuff to plow through in the roads. Less EOC and P&G to keep heat comming out of the vents.

its 55 degrees here at 11am now

My mileage tends to improve in the "not using the air conditioning" season. It was 39 degrees when I drove to work this morning and it's about 73 now. My last quite a few tanks of gas have been over 40 mpg.

I just hate driving home in the dark.

Weather Spotter 11-12-2010 12:34 PM

winter sucks for MPG. But we should start seeing more people look up EM :)

Angelus359 11-12-2010 03:29 PM

I usually don't use air conditioning. When its hot, I slightly crack my window (1cm?) and run the blower fan on medium with AC off. Air blows into the car, and gets heat out the window. Works for me.
