The anti-car folks will always find another escape goat.

The point of the environmental movement.

The environmental aspect is just turned into a smoke curtain for something else...

To eliminate the private ownership of cars for at least poor people.

Considering that Uber at a first stage selected drivers who were always the owner of the car, and now it has partnerships with some car rental companies, it's probably another sign of this attempt to prevent normal people (not only the poor ones actually) from owning a car And even among privately-owned EVs, it's more focused on SUVs or high-performance sports cars which end up being too expensive to justify from a strictly practical standpoint.

We should just wear N95s forever, and then live forever!

Today the poors, tomorrow everyone else and these rules shall never apply to the ruling class.

Mainstream automakers resorting to SUVs as a way to circumvent the emission regulations and fuel-efficiency targets were just the tip of the iceberg. Now that even some Chinese automakers are embracing the SUV craze, or trying to take a chunk of the EV market because it's at least in theory easier to get a foothold in the United States which is still a relevant market, the "people's car" concept is almost dead. In the end, while even smaller cars are turned into some sort of mini SUV to make it look more "specialized" enabling manufacturers to charge more for nothing, seems like an attempt to position a regular sedan as if it was a more upscale class, just like business suits which used to be worn by regular urban men as their everyday attire in the late-'60s when my grandparents moved to my hometown.
