I stumbled across Tom Hank's MySpace page.

He has been a big fan of electric cars for some time now.

good to see a huge celebrity like him not spending money on things that hurt the environment. its also very modest for him to use the xB as a platform for the ev.

Wow! It's only about $60,000 including tax. AC Propulsion is changing the world by making electric vehicles available to everyone! haha! It's weird how you can do a conversion for under $3,000 with a range of 40 miles, and $60,000 with a range of 120 miles. Talk about diminishing returns. Yikes.

Ya there is something fishy there, since I am considering an electric conversion for my xB as well I contacted the company that made the electric xB. And after making me jump through several hoops in order to be considered for a sponsorships they advised me that they would sponsor my vehicle and my sponsorship rate was $45K. Grant it I have that invested into it now, but there is no way I would ever consider dumping that much into something I have no hands on time with.

A conversion for $3k wouldnt buy you much, just a brushed DC motor and a controller, no batteries. Whilt 60K is expensive, it has Li-Ion batteries and a 150 kW AC motor / inverter of his own design The batteruier will last a good lnog time, but I doubt they will last over 100K, but who knows. Toyota said that the battery in the RAV 4 EV would only last 50K miles, but at 100l they are going strong from what I can gather.

Oh, $3000 is plenty to make a 40 mile range conversion with a top speed of about 55 mph. Doing it yourself, of course, but it's not that hard. I can give you a cost breakdown if you're curious. Batteries would need to be replaced every few years, at a cost of around $1300.

He also had one of the toyota RAV4 EVs that never existed. He probably got this as the Honda RAV4 EVs were recalled and destroyed. Some are still around but i don't think hanks has his any more. EDIT may be he does still have the rav4 as at the end of the vid he says about his toyota.
