Torque in a Prius (2004)
Just wanted to chime in that I have been experimenting with the $5 version of torque in the prius, it is completely awesome, and crazy cheap if you have a bluetooth android (gps would be a plus also):
Equipment (2004 prius) 2nd hand Sidkekick 4g $12 OBD adapter Newest V1 5 ELM327 Torque Android Win7 OBD2 OBDII Bluetooth Diagnostic Scanner | eBay $5 torque from the play store Install the free pids for your car, i.e. Gen2 Prius: Custom PIDs for Torque (Android App) with formulas | PriusChat So trying to understand what the prius is doing is a lot easier now, I might even be able to have a soft button on my android for a kill switch 8-o Currently I have 6 gauges on the main screen, 1. mpg graph 2. ICE load (mostly a "the engine is running" indicator, and I try to keep it in the 60-70 range when it is running) 3. HV battery hp (goes negative when charging) 4. brake friction pad hp (so I can tell when I have exceeded regen and am just making heat). 5. MG1 hp 6. MG2 hp It is pretty awesome and so affordable and so easy. I don't know how accurate it all is, but I'm geeked to have some good insight into where the power is going. |
Are you able to see the high voltage hybrid battery module voltage data with it?
Not just overall voltage of the pack, I mean the actual modules. There are 14 "blocks". See this post on Priuschat and the one after it http://priuschat.com/threads/gen2-pr...4#post-1372394 |
Apparently so, per http://api.viglink.com/api/click?for...13631276531762
14 blocks, 0-18 volts, internal resistance per block as well, though I don't know about logging from torque, but the elm protocol is simple enough to hack something together on a bluetooth laptop for battery health monitoring or so. |
Well, for starters it may be interesting to simply read.
For logging, perhaps I'd get a a usb version as well. Have you seen any other good ones on ebay that are as cheap as the bluetooth one you chose? |
I am just using the one adapter, I have considered using an fdti usb cable to the elm chip therein, but have enough bluetooth computers/devices that I probably won't mess with it. I have talked to the adapter via some terminal program on ubuntu.

there is a lot built into torque for logging, uploading, graphing too I am finding now...
|
My laptop does not have bluetooth, though.
And I don't think my tablet, which has bluetooth, would be powerful enough for logging data. I'll have to research it a bit more. |
bluetooth adapters are literally less than a dollar, fyi

Good to know. Thanks.

I sent the developer a message hoping for a clue on how to shut off the engine via obd/soft button, that might be a long shot, but I did find some useful "indicator lights" where I can see when something else requested the engine off (or idle, or warmup, or off lockout?).
