German patent DRP #37435 will be banned by 2030

The nation that invented the first true automobile powered by an internal combustion gasoline engine, its Bundesrat, the Germany's legislative body have passed a resolution to ban sales of ICE engines in their country and EU by 2030. Zero-emissions vehicles would be the only kinds allowed on the market after that time. It complements the Paris Agreement, UN agreement to control greenhouse emissions by 2020. At the 2016 Paris Auto Show; BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Renault, Volkswagen, and numerous European automakers showed future concept cars that are emissions-free driving, EVs or some other form of emissions-free propulsion systems.

Wow, there are more effective ways of reducing pollution and greenhouse gasses than focusing on personal vehicle transportation.

Notice it is passenger vehicles, and by that I'm sure they mean only the private ones. It isn't about reduction in emissions, it's about control. I would argue that the US's wide open and available to all income levels roads and highways has done more for real freedom then all of the wars we have fought over the last 100 years. No job here, go over there. Don't like the people here, move over there. Too many people here, go over there. More recently, local store charging too much, buy it online. Even if you do buy locally you benefit because they are forced to compete. This town is forced to compete with the next. This state is forced to compete with the next. Germany is not exactly the same because of it's size, but Europe as a whole makes a good comparison. These types of limitations are great if you are rich, not so much for the poor and in this case even the middle class.

Please note this isn't legislation or law or anything.

We'll often hear that the EU is 'proposing' or 'planning' some or other nonsense as if that means it's somehow going to happen.

Some places do and it's variable.
