Vetter Fuel Economy Challenges; Hollister CA 7/6/18

Hi you are invited to ride along or compete in the next Vetter Fuel Economy Challenge at Hollister. It will be interesting and a lot of fun.

The Vetter/Corbin Motorcycle Fuel Economy Competition

Friday, July 6, 2018

The 2018 Fuel Economy Run will be about 60 miles each way, from the Hollister Corbin Factory to King City and back.

Rider's Meeting

9:00AM: Meet at the Corbin Factory located at 2350 Technology Pkwy, Hollister, California, Ca. 95023

Gas Motorcycles show up with a full tank of gas from Chevron Gas Station, Highway 25 and San Felipe Road.

Electric motorcycles are to come with batteries charged.
Stock motorcycles are welcomed to ride too.

This is also the time for:
Vehicle inspection
Paper bag testing
Misc questions and answers

Time to begin

10:00AM: Follow the pace vehicle to King City... Mostly Route 25.
There will be one rest stop along the way.

12:00 noon: Lunch break in King City. Gas motorcycles can
top off their gas tanks and turn in gas receipts. Electric motorcycles can charge their batteries. Take a photo of energy used and turn in receipts

If there are to many electric motorcycles to charge at King City, they may have to charge and depart alternatively.

Time to return

1:30PM: Follow pace vehicle back to Hollister.

3:00PM: Arrive and finish in Hollister.

End of the Challenge

Gas powered motorcycles must stop at the Chevron Gas Station near the Corbin Factory and refill with the same kind of gas they ran with trip. Electric motorcycles can charge at the Corbin Factory or at a Charge Point. Again, save and submit a picture of the Charge Point screen. Receipts are to be signed by the rider and be collected by the leader

The fuel cost will determine the winner.

We thank you for doing your part in determining our future

Still too far! If they hosted one down in georgia or Tennessee I would be up for it. Whole lot of motorcycle riding people down here.

Sorry for the late notice. It would be awesome to meet and ride with you at a Vetter Challenge. We are thinking about having another Challenge either in San Luis Obispo or the SF Bay area in Sept. or Oct. I'll try to do a better job of keeping the details of future events posted.
all the best , Vic

NC700s are awesome. A few years ago we had a guy get 100mpg on his during one of the MidOhio Vetter Challenges.

We've had Challenges at the AMA Vintage Days event at MidOhio for the past 7 years but unfortunately not this year. Hopefully we can get the Challenge back to MidOhio in 2019.

I've gotten close to that twice! One attempt was 99mpg and the second attempt was 98mpg!

In 2019, my eldest son and i are heading out on a motorcycle adventure to Fairbanks Alaska where my Dad lives. This winter i have plans to build a Vetter-Style Streamliner body for my NC700. I have already collected many of the parts to make it. So, we'll see how this winter goes and if it's conducive for a spectacular build such as that!

Later on I'll make a thread here for the build and then another for the trip right before he and i take off! :{)

There may be other AMA events that could be suitable for a economy run. The Poag's Hole Hillclimb in Dansville, NY comes to mind.

Oh come on! I didn't even know about that until just now. I could have gone to that! It would be quite a ride, especially for the kind of bikes me and my dad would want to bring..What close-ish motorcycle events should I be planning for right now?

Both my 1988 CBR 250R and my dad's 1992 VFR 400R would be great to bring to that, but with that kind of distance we would probably want to trailer the bikes. And our trailer only holds one bike.

Me and my dad will be going on a trip to Virginia later this year, don't know if there is an event going on where we are going though. I should be riding the little brother's theoretical SV650. (Hasn't happened yet!)
