VW Golf VII : EOCing right from the factory !
That's right !
VW's next Golf with DSG automatic transmission, running in eco-mode will coast with the engine shut down. Hard-core hypermiling is going mainstream. |
I think they are are finally learning, what they read here must of finally sunk in :)

Euromodder - could you post a link? Thanks!

Here is a link to the new golf and a good list of its features
Green Car Congress: MQB-based 7th gen VW Golf up to 100 kg lighter and 23% more fuel efficient than predecessor; Golf BlueMotion delivers 3.2 l/100km (73.5 mpg US) and 85g/km CO2 from link: In the Eco driving profile engine management, air conditioning and other ancillary systems are controlled such that optimum fuel consumption is achieved. In addition on vehicles with DSG when driving in Eco mode there is a coasting function available. If a driver takes his or her foot off the accelerator—for example, when drawing up to traffic lights or on downhill stretches—the DSG disengages and the engine idles. As long as the driver drives appropriately, the Golf’s kinetic energy can thus be put to optimum use. |
The GCC link has it coasting with the engine on though - the article (in Dutch though) that I based my post on, states it shuts down the engine in eco mode.

the VW Jetta Hybrid
it is coming to the USA
soon Mother VW is getting ready for it's release , now . as a jetta hybrid 1.4 liter direct injection turbocharged engine with an additional maximum of 110 ftlbs of torque from an electric motor with regenerative braking 7 speed dsg with true engine off coasting or free wheeling with engine running depending on state of charge of the battery and driving conditions should be comparable to a prius on FE but it will be much quicker off the line , if desired . i can not post proprietary VW info .... but almost everything about it looks very great |
Auto magazines will rip a sub 100hp car to shreds and it will never sell in the USA, because of that I suspect that we will never see this 48mpg gasoline or 73mpg diesel car here but will instead we will see the GTI version of it.

Ditch the hybrid system and the trunk, and you'll have the Golf VII ;) |

Nice potential. Can't wait until I can afford one. Should be about 10-15 years. I wonder how it would do with a small diesel.
