VW New Beetle Mirror Delete

Help! Can anyone help me find a step-by-step on the process of removing my new beetle's side mirrors?

Sincerely,
dieselbeetle

I guess I'm on my own on this one!

This is how weatherspotter did it :

Make sure you seal the cover well on the outside !
If not, you'll get water in the door.

wow, awesome.

I wonder how similar a beetle's side mirror is?

If I were you, I'd check on TDIclub for beetle specific howto's ... And barring that, VWvortex.

If not the same as a Golf/Jetta, it would at least be *similar* enough that you'd have a good idea what remove to get it off of your door.

I don't know if it's the same or not but when I did the Golf I just had to remove the door panel and then take out a few bolts for the mirror assy. I can scan the page out of the Bentley manual if you think it will help.
The attached picture is how mine ended up looking. Made a template from paperboard then transferred to a cheap rubber mud flap I bought at the auto parts store. Sealed it up with black silicone rtv.

The problem with the new beetle is the mirrors sit on top of the door hinge and it sticks out a few inches to compensate for the body lines, I've thought about using smaller mirrors that would mount back of the hinge but then the mirror would have to swing out with the door. modeling a small cone infront of the hinge with a moving mirror is something i haven't started to wrap my head around.

I would LOVE it if you uploaded the bentley manual page!

Thanks

sorry the current mirror does move with the door, maybe hard to see in the picture the mirror mounts just below 3
