The curved glass, the coilover three-link front suspension, the rear differential, the almost-entirely-steel body that’s covered entirely in paint, the projector beam headlights, the aluminum wheels, the four single-piece lugnuts—the Changli was dirt cheap at only $1,200, but you wouldn’t know it by looking at the hardware.

Because it is downright impressive, especially compared to any modern golf cart. Even if it is really, really slow.

On flat roads, it’s actually fine, acceleration is usable, top speed seems around 20 MPH or so, all good enough for a low-speed neighborhood electric vehicle.

That seems way better than say a Power Wheels toy that can cost almost $500. I wonder if you bought a whole shipping container of them the price each with shipping would go down? I wonder what the exact breakdown on tax and shipping was? Buying the batteries from them is also a waste. A nice set of Li-on batteries would be even better anyway, then swap the motor out and run a bigger controller. The e-bike I built is running 2400 watts or 3 times what this thing supposedly has.
