Wasting@Home - Confessionals
Leaving the hot water running albeit slowly while shaving. No excuse. Anyone else letting water get heated for nothing or worse?
|
my house is already full of wasters,
I seldom shave
when i do i do it in the shower. I try hard not to let the water run for anything. I'm the "Power Nazi" in my house. I turn everything off. even if you are coming right back I'm a bully, ask my kids. but i've cut the bills by 30% water is expensive here. i think they charge by the drop. We live near the ocean with no fresh water reserves. Our water is piped in from 160 miles away. the money that they spent on the pipeline,(including all the "studies") could have been spent on 3 or 4 desalinization plants and ended all our water worries. stupid gubmint. enough ranting, i'm on a gubmint 'puter. Buon lavoro a mio figlio. |
In the morning, I run some water to brush my teeth. Not the whole time - just some to get the brush wet to start with, rinse it off as the end, and swish around my mouth.
I use the HOT water tap to do this. COLD water comes out. By the time HOT water comes out, I am done brushing my teeth, and I use the hot to shave with. That kinda follows the law of supply - use whatever you have, and use it for the best purpose. Don't try a hot water use if you aren't going to have any right away. |
it seems more efficient to have little water heaters right where you need it. transmission of electric vs water.
why don't refrigerators have a hot water outlet, it would be dang near free. i still have to turn off the valve though. i find washing ones face with 58 degree water really smoothes out the wringles. 3 or 4 desalinization plants and ended all our water worries people would just waste more without the water police. |
I drove 40 minutes to a cycling rally (I think I was the youngest guy there too o.0)...

I don't have a clue what you said, but I understand Saint. I am by no means a saint. Just a tired old tightwad who is always( or so it seems) turning off the lights after my kids, or wife. I pay all the bills in the house so I am the one who sees a difference in the usage patterns. Four years ago,(one year after we moved in) our water bill was ~$60.oo month. I fixed the weepy toilet and became the Power & Water Nazi,(think "Tank Girl" an 80's movie). Now our water bill is ~$40.oo a month. That is also after the price went up to pay for the stupid pipeline. No Saint here. Please don't take what I said out of context. I got on a rant because your question reminded me of the multi-millions of dollars spent for a pipe for water when I live next to the Atlantic Ocean. The local Gubmint does not always act intelligently. The money they spent on Impact and Feasibility Studies and too many others to remember (think Snail Darter Fiasco in Colorado many years ago) could have been better spent on Desalinization Plants right here. I try not to waste, I am not perfect. Every one else in my house is wasteful so I am the one who picks up after them so to speak. I waste soda. I can not ever finish a can when I open it. Half goes down the drain. I would buy those little 6oz cans if they were less expensive than the 12oz ones. (that doesn't make sense to me either) I wasted a lot of body filler on K's bumper inserts. But they are done now and I can work on her wheel covers. I didn't mean to come off as holier than thou. I apologize profusely. Please accept my apology. I am sorry. PWKeim, AKA Schultz. |
Up till yesterday I had an 80 watt florescent light burning 24*7 in my car port. (just added Dusk to dawn sensor).
LOTS more savings to do at home. But we've already cut the electricity bill in half, so that's a solid improvement. |
Schultz, I was just kidding you on having nothing to confess. So I made you a saint.
Saint Schultz of Virgin (bad wordplay on Virgina) Good work my son |
I try not to be wasteful. I too seem to constantly turn off lights after the rest of the family. My daughter is getting better at water use, but still uses too much. My son away at college has learned to use less electricity and a lot less gas for heating. My wife will turn on every light and keep going. Last year she did have medical problem where she lost a good deal of her night vision... But its not always easy to get everyone on board...
