Civic VX steering rack lubrication?

Hello all,

We have a ripped steering rack boot on our '95 Civic VX and need to replace. Straightforward, I know, but what I'm wondering about is how is rack lubricated on these cars? On my old British cars the manual rack actually contained 90wt. oil for lubrication. Anyone know about the Honda? When I get some of the last basic maintenance items down I can get on with eccomods.

Scott

Do you mean the inner tie rod? It's meant to keep water and dirt from getting in there. There's no lubrication, but the torn boot will cause the tie rod to wear prematurely.

Steering boot

Yep, the inner tie rod. I spoke with my local parts house and it was my understanding that the rack itself is sealed and those boots on the outside are just dust boots that keep stuff off the inner tie rods. Different from my past experience with the British cars. Thanks!

You can adjust the rack gear play and that is worth checking.
