2008 Toyota Sequoia

I bought another car! Sequoias are definitely not the most economical vehicles... but I needed something that is capable of towing ~7500 lbs. I always thought that Sequoias get terrible mpg, but my experience has not been that bad! I got a 2wd model with the 5.7 engine. Most of my trips have gotten 17-20 mpg. I just recently removed the front mudflaps and roof rack so I might notice a difference from that.

Here are some other plans I have for the car:

1. Rear mudflap alteration
2. Front air dam
3. Partial belly pan
4. Block heater, oil + transmission pan heaters (mpg is very bad when it is cold)
5. Flux hybrids kit
6. Transgo shift kit

With all these (minus the flux hybrids kit) I hope to get 23-24 mpg consistently. With the flux hybrids kit, I hope to get at least 35 mpg!

Shoot speak for yourself. I consider my Sequoia economical. With how reliable these vehicles are and how high inflation is (lets be honest it is double digits) I bet they are one of the cheaper ways on the scale to cover 500k miles.
Nice vehicle by the way! What do you plan to tow?

By the way if you convert the mechanical fan to efan you can probably speed up warm up. Doesn't help when the truck starts the airplane propeller attached to the crank is about to catch flight.

Its the same as the Ranger it runs on fire up and then after about a minute it goes into its electric clutch mode. You will have to listen to it and verify but if you did an e-fan you can pick one that doesn't fire up until say 190F

They make thermostat switches on some cars maybe subies (?) OR fords that dont close until 170 or higher. Bit of aluminum powder in JB WELD for heat transfer stuck to the radiator and wire the switch in series. Or my favorite: Zip tied electric water heater control units. I have a 2 element one that doesn't fire the lower element until the upper is at 126 degrees but is adjustable to 180.

I am not seeing anything really for the gen 2 sequoia/tundra. I don't think the fan is on very much. It is very loud when I start the engine but then I don't hear it at all for the rest of the drive.

Surprisingly all these mods seem to have made a big difference. There is a hill I coast down sometimes. I usually only stay the same speed or gain 3-4 mph. Today I gained 10-12 mph going down the same hill. That is a big difference that I hope will translate into mpg gains.

The biggest thing adversely affecting mpg now is acceleration. The vehicle is so heavy that it takes quite a lot of power to get up to speed. One thing I want to do to help this is to switch to a lighter wheel/tire combo. Currently the combined weight is 80 lbs. I can easily go down to 70 lbs and still have the load range E tires that I want. I'm hoping that will make some difference.
