What about the Geo Storm ?

I saw a Geo Storm today* and thought I'd ask what you all thought of the car as a car to eco-mod.

Since it is a Geo, I would think that an Xfi engine would bolt right in.

The Storm was the sporty version of the Metro, and always reminded me of a 'mini' Camaro.

When I look at the Storm, the first thing that comes to mind is wanting to prop the glass on the hatch up at the correct angle for good aero ( stock it is too steep of an angle )

So what do you guys think ?

* These cars are becoming rare around my area. I suspect the poor quality of the cars, but it could be just the fact that people drove them to death.

I actually thought about this today, also, as I passed a Storm LSi.

More accurately, it passed me. Like an idiot. Probably doing around 70 on a 25 MPH campus road.

I said to myself... I said "Self... that could be a neat aero project..." "Might want to get a note of his insurance company, so you can buy it cheap when he totals it."

In fact, the Geo Metroids were primarily Suzuki engineered, the Geo Storm was built by Isuzu (and the Geo Prizm is essentially a re-badged Toyota Corolla). Geo was just a catch-all brand for GM to play with little cars sourced from wherever.

So I'm not sure the drivetrain swap is a plug-n-play affair.

Those Storms seemed to rust out fast. They're but a memory in these parts.

My brother had a Geo storm before it blew out the engine. Something about the valves getting mashed by the pistons because the timing got off. One big thing I remember about his was the headlights had these weird partial covers that flip up. I'm sure they were really hard on aero.

I saw a Storm the other day... it was a hatch back! I don't know if it was a custom job, but it sure looked stock.

Hello -

I've been waiting for someone to show up on this forum with a Storm, but maybe they're just few and far between.

wyatt - the car had an optional "wagon back" version, not quite as clever as the Nissan Pulsar with the "wagon hatch" option.

A person I used to work with had a Storm. He said it wasn't even a good gust of wind much less a storm.

Storm

Around these parts, the Storm was very popular, perhaps too popular for GM's comfort level,as soon GM/Isuzu cut a deal, where Isuzu would discontinue car production altogether and stick to trucks.I like the front of the Storm very much ( I also like the original Saturn SC ).It's windshield is better than many new cars.As you've mentioned, the backlite is too steep.I'd lose the whole greenhouse back there and also tear into the sheetmetal and see about shaping it more like the rear of the EV-1.As to the powertrain,I don't know.I believe AeroVironment eluded to it when it mentioned a 80-mpg gasoline variant of the EV-1.

The sister Isuzu RS turbos with the Lotus fettled suspension weren't bad. Don't know if there was a factory Storm turbo.
