What is the largest % you have seen from aeromods alone ?
What is the largest % you have seen from aero-mods alone ?
Without engine off coasting or other tricks, how much FE increase have you guys gained from your aeromods ? I'm not comfortable EOC, ( i can't anyways - it's an auto ) so I was just curious what kind of gains can be had from aeromods alone. I know the question is very general and would vary greatly from vehicle to vehicle, but i was hoping i could get some response from some of you guys that have done serious aeromods with your cars. Also, I have asked this question several times in the past, but haven't seen it in a dedicated thread that i remember. |
I've never even tried to separate that out. Much of the benefit from aeromods comes from increased used of EOC.
I read somewhere (Hucho ?) that, in production vehicles, half the benefit from aero improvements comes from changes in engine size and transmission ratios. |
You could compare the Aerocivic before and after to get an idea of the difference - the guy was hypermiling before and after so it is the same "techniques" being used, albeit adjusted for that car having improved aero (e.g. longer coasts)

Thanks Arragonis, but I can't engine off coast in my car, so I'm just curious to see what i could expect if i aeromodded my car and drove normally.
The largest increase i have seen is Phils' ( Aerohead ) truck that dropped from .44 down to .153 and gained around ten or so miles per gallon . So if I drop my stock Cd of .31 down to AeroCivic numbers* ( .17 ? ) then i can expect a averaged gain of a how many miles per gallon without EOC ? I can usually get around 40 - 44 MPG on long highway trips with no stops, so perhaps i could crack 50 MPG ? From what Phil had said in a previous post, it looks like i could gain maybe six or seven mpg tops, but then i see that 3 Wheeler gained nearly 10 mpg with his boattail addition, and this was on a car that had a lot less wake than the car that i have, and the test consisted of freeway driving with no EOC ( I'm assuming ) So a little confused here. ( * BTW, Me and Basjoos have the exact same car, but mine is automatic. ) |
Good question. I wasnt able to break 100 mpg til I removed my passenger side mirror and gut all teh unnecessary crap inside. Before hand it would be between lowering and gril lblocking. Blocking the whole front end I say yields the most and improved acceleration at and above highway speeds.

I did just this on my 400 mile trip with the Probe. Just driving steady 60mph, coasting down any really big hills. Passing people, not drafting.
EPA: 28 MPG hwy Actual: 41 MPG hwy Actual (rain): 34 MPG hwy 46% gain. The car is heavily aero-modified. Then again with full hardcore hypermiling... P&EOC no boattail: 45 MPG hwy (60% gain hwy) |
If i could gain 46% over the cars stock 42 MPG highway rating, that would mean about 60 MPG ?
That sounds pretty nice ! |

Cd, WHY are you still debating this??
What are you waiting for! Start modding! |
