What should I do with a 2002 Prius?
2 Attachment(s)
In exchange for doing a brake job, I got a 2002 Prius with a dead hybrid battery. Minimal rust, clean interior, and only 138k miles on the odometer. It's probably worth more in parts, but it seems like a shame to part it out.
Anybody know what 20 miles of flat towing in neutral does to a Prius transmission? I can't drive it myself, not enough pedals. :D https://ecomodder.com/forum/attachme...1&d=1592362528 https://ecomodder.com/forum/attachme...1&d=1592362528 |

The HSD is a hoot to drive tho, one pedal P&G! |
Fix the hybrid battery?
Yank the engine, weld the HSD and use it as an electric car? Part it out? Battery modules sell all day on ebay, drivetrain. IIRC a lot should all fit Toyota Echoes, too. Put the shell of a 50's pickup truck on it? LOL Sam |
LS motor swap with a Tremec 6 speed and RWD. Maybe a single huge turbo mounted high and the whole firewall moved back 3 feet so you actually enter and drive from the back seat. Then go troll youtube about how you spanked a Tesla Model S plaid with your Prius, get a million views, and start your youtube car channel with a bang.
Or just stick it on Craigslist for $500 and be done. |
If you trade labor for common sense you can sometimes rejuvenate the battery enough to drive short distances.
There is a small but ardent group of gen1.5 Prii, if you can save the car go for it. With a set of 165/65r14 re92’s they are a hoot. Could always make a Piuck also. |

I'd be tempted to perform some experiences with a different powertrain, such as a Perkins 1.7L 3-cyl turbodiesel just to piss the die-hard Prius fanboys off :D
