When going green is dirty...

.

When going green is dirty: Colorado's indoor cannabis farms produce 30% more greenhouse emissions than the state's coal mining industry due to electricity use and natural gas consumption, study reveals.

Growing cannabis indoors requires a lot of energy for lights and climate controls

Many states forbid outdoor farming or require operations to be near retail outlets

In Colorado, indoor pot farming's carbon footprint is over 30 percent bigger than coal mining

Depending on where you are, growing an ounce of weed indoors has the same carbon footprint as burning 7 to 16 gallons of gasoline

The law of unintended consequences strikes again...

Lol...

Hmm...sounds expensive to run. How do they keep prices down if they're spending so much on energy?

Prices are down? Not that I would know, but this sounds like more tax revenue.

I didn't say they went down, I said kept down...stuff ain't all that expensive IMO. Here, anyway. Gas on the other hand seems stupidly high for what it is. All seems ass backwards!

freebeard 03-12-2021 03:19 PM

Fair enough. I'd say free is a very good price.

So if you like smoking the reefer, you better like natural gas, fracking and pipelines.

Neither confirm nor deny.

I like the Bonneville Power Administration and my local [service] provider.

Back when it was illegal the feds used to watch electric consumption at suspected growing facilities, even use it as a reason for a search warrant.

Thanks for posting the article link.
It's good to be informed of issues that need fixing.
I see this article not as a way of condoning coal mining, but rather pointing out the issues that need fixing.

I included some additional information.

Hey, BTW, I noticed ads at the top of the page when I opened this topic are demonizing renewable energy. ( That last picture of the big bad wolf )
It's interesting and sad the way that works.
If people stay in their own little 'bubble' and don't stay open to new ways of thinking, then you get fed what someone else wants you to believe, and never see the couterpoints.

Makes me guess if a genset powered by ethanol and biomethane, or maybe biodiesel made out of hemp seed oil, could provide a reasonable amount of energy and COČ to offset the carbon footprint :D
