White Lightning - 2005 Focus Build
So Little Red got laid to rest after deer hunting, and now
White Lightning is to replace it, I am looking to do pizza pan wheel covers and change the tires to one size taller after these wear out, I am also gonna do a grille block and some extra lights, this car has power locks and windows, cruise, tilt/slide steering wheel, as to where the last focus had manual everything, and all the options work....bonus!!!:D |
All ideas will be greatly appreciated
And I found that this vehicle uses PWM for TCC lockup and I am not going to go into that! |
Well, I don't know exactly why this landed in the Unicorn Corral. Looks like a nice enough car and if the pictures are any evidence, it actually exists.
Why is this here? |
Probably where I started...lol
|
Yeah, and misleading title. I thought it was going to be about building a still to make your own ethanol fuel :-)
|
And that wouldn't have been a unicorn either, since under the right circumstances distilling your own ethanol for fuel has been the most economical choice in the past and may be again in the future.
|
A PWM for TCC from what I have read is used to softly engage converter lockup.
|
Congrats on the new wheels. I look forward to seeing what you can do with it!
Do not fear electronics! Learn it and a whole new world will open up to you. :) |
Still slowly working on my car and making it more efficient, hard to get results right now because the weather has been all over the place, but I did redneckify a lower engine cover from a 2012 focus to fit my car.
|
Is there a way to put this in the Aerodynamics threads instead of unicorns?
|
Picture update!!!

Just looked at the pics again, looks like I need to do some more smoothing up of the little stuff, I think I will wait until it is warmer as it is 22F with a 15mph wind
|
Just put a horn on the front of it and you won't have to have the thread moved.
I like your wheel covers. nice and symmetrical with the zap straps. |

Just ask. /Phew....white lightning!!! (hiccup) |
So I had the pcv hose changed out a few months ago, changed out the idle valve (hanging idle) and did a fresh tune up with new motorcraft plugs and coil boots, now possibly gonna work on the WAI, looking to retrofit the airbox from a 2012 Focus and hope to build a custom box to have pvc screw in caps for the WAI or CAI depending on everything else, also I am needing to rethink my lower airdam because the factory one sits back from the front bumper, more pics to come.
|
Well after a long hiatus in the posting department of my own stuff, I am proud to have hit 38MPG in my car, I was able to hit 29MPG avg for 50 miles with my wife's Mercury Mariner doing the same route and techniques
55MPH in a 60 or 65 with cruise on, 42MPH in a 55 zone with cruise on, coasting down all major hills, and shutting off engine at stops all the time! |
I have another ECO Mod to report, this one is at face value!!!
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4235/...f5012947_b.jpg Yes, I know, time to get serious with the ecomodding!!! |

I was able to get a pic of the rear of the car with the led brake (except high mount lamp) and reverse lights |
So I have been doing some research, and I am getting ready to make a cold air intake for the retail price of around $30 using factory ford parts!!!
2012 Focus air filter, maf adapter and that is it Remove resonator on top and the tube that houses the maf on the 2005-2007 focus, may also apply to the 2008-2011. Keep in mind, I am still going to do a warm air solution, but my air box is one of those "lifetime filter housings" |
Sorry, I will get pics posted when I get it completed....waiting on the lunch hour!
|
|
Now time to gas up after work (needed to fill up anyhow) and see what the next tank brings!!!
|
47 miles in and looks like I am doing better with the new intake.
Time will tell when I fill up this new tank in a couple of days!!! https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4076/...793909ce_b.jpg |
Which app is that?

Today was a good day, I think I might have figured out a better route, but if I get this all the time, I will be hitting my goal soon!!!

Woohoo I'm still climbing in MPGs, I can't wait to fill up to see if I finally hit 40MPG average.. Goals, gotta start somewhere!!! |
Very nice mileage from a Focus!

Another gain from a round trip to work!!! It's only .2 MPG, but a gain is a gain in my book! |
|
I worked extra hard the past couple of days!!!!
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4260/...e6cbcd17_k.jpg |
So close this fill up to 40MPG...ended up with calculated 39.29MPG
More work to do to beat this! |
WOOHOO, after fill up this morning, I am #5 on the list...but it took me half a morning to remember to look....lol
|
Congrats!
|
Well I just found the owners manual for my car so I looked at the fuel tank capacity and it shows 14 gallon, so I will have to adjust my instrumentation to reflect on next fill up, should be next Friday morning as I will be leaving on vacation and travelling Route 66 from Springfield MO to Oklahoma City OK!

Best one yet!!! ----------------------------- On another note, my highest calculated MPG is .07MPG over my Red car! |
Well so much for instrumentation, lost Bluetooth connection from obd to phone, at least dash command won't recognize it, will try torque after work
|
That probably doesn't have as much to do with the app as it does with the phone / OBD dongle.
|
Well I don't know for sure what it was, I had a brand new dongle in the door pocket so I tried it, tried my other phone, it was something crazy because I lost bluetooth to my obd dongle and my other phone lost bluetooth to the radio, that lasted for almost 2 days, now all works normal.....go figure!
|
Torque worked last night and Dash Command worked like normal this morning.
