On dat :turtle: life y'all

This is from a 33 mile drive through a city, countryside 4-lane highway and down the Interstate. All I did was drop my speed from the usual 45-50 down to 38-43. The result is ~10% increase in fuel economy from what I have been seeing in the past.

DWL, EOnC, and P&G were all used to make this happen. I really think that I can break 55 on Wednesday's meet and may have a shot at 60 mpg if I can get enough coasting in.

WOW Great work my friend!!!!

Thank you Russell! I forgot to mention that this is a new long trip record, but that was probably implied :)

I also busted my highest short trip record last week. 87.2 mpg

I have managed a best of 4.1 L/100 Km (57.4 MPG US) in my Merc A180 Auto petrol, on a 300 km trip. I too think it would be possible to get over 60 with a bit more effort, especially as it seems to be getting more economical with use. It has now done 70 000 Km and is significantly better than it was when new. The auto in this car has eco, sport and manual settings but I almost always use eco.

Very impressive from an automatic.

Thank you Tim! It is the ipitimy of "workin' with what you got."

SDMFC - Congrats on your first post and your high mpg :) what year is the Merc? I have none of those settings as my car is 17 years old and has 270k miles/ 430k kilometers. It would be nice though :D

Thanks. The 4.1 L/100 was a "personal best" but I regularly get 4.5 to 5 (47 to 52 MPG).
The Merc is a 2013 car.
The various options/settings are just gimmicks really. I wouldn't look for them on another car.

It's good mileage for sure, but manuals will do better, at least with VW TDIs. I have managed 50+mpg with my TDI automatic, but the equivalent manual will do 60+mpg under the same conditions.

I agree with you, and for ultimate milage I would always opt for a manual, given a free choice. However the point is that it is possible to get good milage with an auto even though it is probably not the best. I think that is good news if you have to run an auto. I changed from a manual to an auto for reasons beyond my control and I have been pleased with the results. It is years since I ran an auto and I was expecting a bigger milage hit.
