Why I like you guys better than my "real friends" on Facebook

Obviously, I spend too much time on here, but this site does not pull me in like Facebook used to. It seemed like whenever they came up with a new feature I needed to figure out how to turn it off before I wasted even more time.

I try to not post often because I do not follow my friends. I talk to them, but I do not have time for their ten posts a day.

Xist complains too much and certainly talks too much.
One woman told me that I didn't.

"When my son Mark was seven months old, I was so thrilled when he said `mama.' My joy quickly dissolved when he also said `mama' when he saw the dog."
Another woman asked "What is this?"
I should be happy. She both capitalized and used proper punctuation!
A third woman wrote "You have lost your mind"
I keep asking her to use punctuation!

Xist wishes that his professor would stop talking about "My Little Pony."
A fourth woman started talking about the show.

I started a question with "To my Army friends."
A fifth woman, a civilian, told us what she thought.

Apparently, Ecomodder is my "man cave."

Thanks for putting up with me! :)

MY wife uses Facebook. I have a Facebook "account" but I never post on it and read very few of the posts by others.

regards
Mech

I created a MySpace account because I did not know how else to get a hold of an old friend. I mostly use Facebook to chat with one very good friend, who stopped using MSN Messenger and hardly checks his e-mail. My best friend does not do either, so I call him, but he does not have a wife and kids.

I think that I talk much more with the Facebook friend than the phone one.

That's pretty much the same reason I kept mine as long as I did. My brother lives in Germany and it was easier to communicate via Facebook than anything. But now I have an app on my phone that allows me to text, share pics, and video instantly to his iPhone. Cool stuff

Isn't technology great!?! What app is that?

For all the issues surrounding social media, it does have it's place. Your brother is a prime example. Another is my mom, who has found long lost relatives she would have never known about or met otherwise. She also does the geneaology (sp?) for our family and has gotten a lot of leads over the last decade from other people who found something she hadn't. She was stuck in the 18th or 19th century, but just a week ago somebody on FB alerted her to information and now she can go further back. Pretty cool to know where my ancestors were and what they did, even if it's only a few hundred years.

Yea that stuff is pretty cool. I never got into it. Would be cool to do someday!!

The app I use is called "whatsapp"
It's pretty much like a regular texting service but free. And when he sends me pics of my nephews or whatever it downloads right to my photo album. Then I can send it right to my photobucket. To use it they need a wireless Internet plan or wifi signal.

I started using Facebook after Basic. It was fantastic for me while the Army mailed me around. My sister deleted her Facebook account, claiming that she did not have time for it, but she bought an iPhone, and never even looked at me when I came over, because her toy was more important than me.

My phone is not smart, but I used to be able to do a great deal texting GOOGL. Unfortunately, they stopped that service, telling me to use the Internet.

My phone can use the Internet very slowly, but Google is useless.

Facebook is a very noisy, very crowded place. It's irritating at points, and overbearing, and sucks up too much of your free time.

Facebook got me my current magazine gig. An editor that I knew and that knew (of) me sent me a PM out of the blue asking if I wanted to write for him.

On a more mundane level, I interact with some business contacts via FB PM. Considering most people check Facebook every day (if not every hour) and read their e-mail maybe once a week, it's sometimes a life saver. Especially if people don't answer their phones, either.

I guess it's not completely useless. :D

I feel about the same about this place as I do about the local running & swimming groups I hang out with. In most cases, I don't get to know people very personally, but I love that I can drop in any time, participate in cool stuff, and be around awesome people.

I've pruned the feed on my facebook a lot, so, really, the only people i see stuff from are my close friends & family, and a bunch of folks from the running & swimming groups I mentioned. Not seeing you guys on there is kind of a gap. Facebook is kind of how I get non-activity-contextual updates about people I hang out with on a semi-regular basis. :P Friend me. Xist? :)
