Working on top ten lists: what do YOU want?

I want to consider everything you want to see in the lists. If you have ideas, speak up before I'm done!

Tango Charlie 05-13-2009 11:22 PM

Yer probably already on it, but...
Separate the electrics from the dino wine burners!

SVOboy 05-14-2009 12:53 AM

I hope you guys like vbulleting because IT SUCKS for making anything custom.

:)

UfoTofU 05-14-2009 01:30 AM

You can do it!

SVOboy 05-14-2009 02:10 AM

Wow, I can't believe I was such an idiot and made such a stupid mistake for all these hours.

EcoModder Fleet list - EcoModder.com

McTimson 05-14-2009 08:49 AM

So it's separated into regular gas, diesel, and electric, right?

You should make a separate one for % over EPA to help point out that better drivers, not just efficient cars, can get good mileage also.

Piwoslaw 05-14-2009 09:48 AM

Good job SVOboy :)
I'm with McTimson, % over EPA. You could make those in a table right under the mpg's (2 rows - % & mpg, 3 columns - gas, diesel & electric).

PaleMelanesian 05-14-2009 10:57 AM

I think something's not right. There's a car missing in the gas list. ;) Should be at #5.

Should hybrids be in their own category?

SVOboy 05-14-2009 11:45 AM

The reason your car isn't up is because it's lifetime. I will switch it to 90 day since that makes more sense.

Also, will investigate if we're set up for hybrids and such.

And do the % over stuff

Matt Herring 05-14-2009 11:51 AM

SVO - Will this be a constantly changing list as people update their fuel logs? That would be cool if it auto updated. I liked Piwoslaw's idea so you could sort the 3 types of cars (gas, hybrid, electric) my mpg and % over EPA.

PaleMelanesian 05-14-2009 11:54 AM

Lifetime mpg, that makes sense. I'm fine with it either way, but since the signature banners use 90 day, that might be more consistent.

Matt Herring 05-14-2009 11:55 AM

Also, not sure if there are any qualifications to be on this list but is there a way to make sure all of the cars on the Top 10 are "active" and not retired or "have not updated their fuel logs in over 6, 8, 12 months?"

As a carrot for myself, I've been tracking Top 40 cars on the site every time I update my fuel log and some of the cars with higher mpg on the list have been inactive for quite some time.

UfoTofU 05-14-2009 11:57 AM

I think that problem will be solved if it's set within the ninety days

I actually like 90 day as a stagnant meter for the top 10 list. It would update the board a little more and offer encouragement to those of use who live in the cold winters vs. those who drive in warm weather most of the year (tough to get your lifetime as high as others when you lose mpg's in the winter). Or, we can really put the screws to SVO and request another sort function (lifetime and 90 day)!!!!!!!! All in good fun SVO!

#5 on the list on the left...2004 Prius (Cold Fusion) has not updated his fuel log since July of 2008.

Yes, autoupdating

UfoTofU 05-14-2009 12:13 PM

It's not set as that yet

SVOboy 05-14-2009 12:14 PM

All concerns posted shall be addressed when I get a few minutes to work on it :D

Tango Charlie 05-14-2009 12:27 PM

How about a list for the truck drivers. It would be good to encourage them with some rivalry. Also promote the 'do your best with what you got' attitude we have here at EM.

PaleMelanesian 05-14-2009 12:36 PM

I think % over epa would at least partly address that.

SVOboy 05-14-2009 12:37 PM

You mean pickups or semis?

Tango Charlie 05-14-2009 12:42 PM

I was thinking pickups, vans, and SUVs.

SVOboy 05-14-2009 12:52 PM

When I get 3-4 hours tonight I swear you guys will have something really pretty :)

tasdrouille 05-14-2009 12:57 PM

Yup, take the 90 days average and rule out vehicles not having filled up in the last 90 days.

I agree with this...some quick research on the 25 cars listed on the top 10's reveals 7 of them have not had a fuel log entry in the past 90 days. A couple have 1 fuel log entry lifetime.

I think 90 day is the way to go...our fearless leader SVO will do the right thing...I know it!

MetroMPG 05-14-2009 02:39 PM

When Ben & I were talking this over yesterday, I also proposed only including vehicles of active forum members. What do people think?

Tango Charlie 05-14-2009 03:02 PM

Oooh, I like.

Another incentive to be an active member.

What are the parameters of being an active member?

UfoTofU 05-14-2009 03:26 PM

I like that idea

SVOboy 05-14-2009 03:28 PM

Logging on in the last 30 days, I think!

MetroMPG 05-14-2009 03:33 PM

Hmmm.... Just realized that might not accomplish what I want. "Active" may not necessarily mean participation in the forum; it might just mean logged in (which everyone has to do to use the garage anyway).

I would want to limit the lists to forum participants.

Or at least make it the dominant list; "everyone" list could be another category. The more the merrier, right Ben?

SVOboy 05-14-2009 04:04 PM

Well, we'll see if we can find out a way to measure posting :)

SVOboy 05-14-2009 08:55 PM

UPDATES:
+ Added column titles
+ Added links to full lists
+ Changed to 90 day FE all around

Anyone have new ideas? Still working on the other stuff in the thread.

Matt Herring 05-14-2009 09:50 PM

How does 2004 Prius rank 3rd on list for 90 day avg. when he hasnt filled out a fuel log since last July? Still quite a few cars on there that are either retired or have not filled out a fuel log in more than 90 days.

And...where's Bone's Prius on the extended list? Also, can't sort by % over EPA yet.

Not piling on...just assiting with working out the bugs if you are asking for help.

I'm guessing all the cars with "0" as % over EPA are the ones that have not recorded a fuel log in past 90 days.

SVOboy 05-14-2009 09:58 PM

Well, for some reason even if you haven't filled out an entry it still shows a 90 day value. Look at the vehicle's garage page.

That just means I need to add something extra because the garage has a bug. Gimme time :)

Matt Herring 05-14-2009 10:02 PM

SVO - It looks great bro! Understand the bugs. This is excellent motivation to move up the board...really cool stuff bro!

SVOboy 05-14-2009 10:06 PM

Or they haven't put in an EPA. Still trying to sort stuff out. Will do more after I finish packing for my trip.

Percent over EPA top 10 and full lists done. Didn't include electrics since many didn't have EPA and it just seems like a weird way to compare :)

Kicked retired vehicles out of the running :)

SVOboy 05-15-2009 01:18 AM

Okay, that's all from me on the top 10 lists for now, gotta finish packing for my two month excursion :)

I do have some more ideas though and I'll keep them kicking around in my head and maybe work out some code too :)

cfg83 05-15-2009 01:21 AM

SVOboy -

Thanks for doing this.

I'm 29!
I'm 29!
I'm 29!
I'm 29!

(% over EPA that is, 98 percentile)
